“Not a problem, Ms. Ryan. The car is scheduled to take you both to the stadium in one hour.”
Seth appeared at my side, frowning. “Annalise is going to practice, not the stadium.”
“No practice today, Butler. I’m coming to your game. We all are, actually.”
His hand came to the small of my back, like he needed to feel me. “Is that safe?”
“We have it well in hand, Mr. Butler,” Mercedes assured him. “It’s a public venue being broadcast live. We have the Tangerines sitting behind home plate and in the box directly above it. We’ve already coordinated with stadium security and extra measures are being taken.”
His gaze swung my way. “You planned this. Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Surprise!” I waved my hands in the air.
His other hand came to my face and he kissed me soundly right in front of Mercedes.
“One hour, Mr. Butler,” Mercedes chuckled, closing the door on us.
I wound up with my back to the wall beside the door as Seth pressed into me. Could we go again? Would it ever be enough? How was it possible to want him more each time? But this kiss wasn’t urgent. It was slow. Sensual. And after a few drugging moments he pulled away, running his nose along mine while he caught his breath.
“You’re coming to the game?”
“I am. Sitting behind home plate and everything.” My heart beat faster and harder the longer we touched until the beat thundered in my ears.
His fingers caressed my cheek, his thumb traced my chin, all while I got lost in his gaze. “Why?” His brows came down, doubt written all over his handsome face.
And there it was. That hurt that still hid just beneath the surface. Hurt that apparently came from one hell of a broken heart. I was both jealous of the woman who’d had it before me, and frustrated that I didn’t know the details. Not that I should know everything about Seth after a few days, but I wanted to. Now that he’d been inside me, made love to me, fucked me, and turned into my own personal fantasy delivery man, I wanted everything.
I just had to find some patience and let him tell me when he was ready.
So I kissed him once. Lightly. To chase away the pain. “Because I want to support you just as much as you support me. Because I want to watch you do what you’re so good at.” I smiled because being honest felt so damn freeing. “Because I don’t want this to be goodbye.”
He dropped his forehead to mine. “Why does six days suddenly feel like forever?”
“Because we’ve only had a little over six hours.” The difference between six hours and six days was staggering. It was the Grand Canyon.
“I don’t want this to be goodbye either.” He kept touching me, studying me. “We’ll talk while I’m gone?”
It was so sweet that it was a question. “Yes.”
And just like that, the switch flipped again. His doubts assured. His worries put away. The grin returned. “Every day.”
“Every day.”
“I want pictures and videos.” He waggled his eyebrows.
“I’m not making any promises.”
“I am.” His eyes softened. “I just don’t want space to come between what we had last night.”
Could that spark die so easily? That didn’t seem possible. “It won’t.”
“I’m all yours when we get back. Four whole days. Wherever you go, I go.”
That should sound overwhelming but it didn’t. It sounded amazing. “Okay.” Rhett would be gone. Maybe we could stay at his place. Or here. I liked here. But not if there were other guys here.
He cupped my face, a fierceness flashing behind his eyes. “I didn’t know it could be like that. I’ve never…” His voice fell away as he gulped, at a loss for words.
So was I. “I didn’t either.”
