Story: Beautiful Revenge
Neither of us moves for a moment. Then… I lower the gun. “I’m not going to kill you, Finn. Not after everything we’ve been through.”
“Good. Besides, the safety is on so you wouldn’t have been able to shoot anyway.”
Damm him.
I give him a look as he shows me how to turn the gun’s safety on and off.
“If you hear someone else and it’s not me, don’t hesitate to shoot.”
“I won’t.” I hold the gun close to my chest. It’s so small and yet so powerful. I like to think I’m the same but how powerful can I be as a woman in this man’s world?
“I’ll be back soon. I promise.”
“You’re not going to tell me where you’re going?”
“Nope. All marriages need a little bit of some secrets in them, don’t they?” With a wink, he leaves the house. He doesn’t lock me up. He’s trusting me not to leave.
Besides, there’s no car I can use and were about an hour from the city. Finn is starting to trust me. But that’s not the crazy part.
It’s that I’m starting to trust him.
Finn
My mind is a scrambled mess. I care for Aria and don’t want her to be upset with me but I also want to kill Dante for fucking me over but I also want to spare his life because we used to be friends at one point. I want my brother to suffer and yet I also want him back in my life. I don’t know what the fuck to do.
There’s only one person who can help me with this.
My mom, Fiona Murphy.
Her house is a small, old little thing but it’s a place with a lot of warm memories.
“Finn Murphy,” she says once she opens the door. “I haven’t seen you in almost a year. What are you doing here?” My mom has always been great at giving me the most disapproving expression on the planet.
“Can a boy come see his ma?”
She frowns before a large smile breaks out on her face and she gives me a big hug. “Come in. So, why did you stop by? I know you, Finn. You came for a reason.”
We settle at the kitchen table but she doesn’t stay seated for a long. My mom hurries about the kitchen, getting the kettle going, and grabbing some biscuits. “In case you’re hungry.”
“Thanks.” I pop one in my mouth.
“So.” She crosses her arms. “What’s been going on with you?”
Might as well bite the fucking bullet. “I’m at war with Dante again.”
“I know. I heard. And your brother might have told me that.”
“Right. Well, I want Dante dead and now… I’m not sure what that’s what I want.”
“Ok. So what’s the problem? Just don’t kill him.”
“But then Viktor Smirnov might try and kill me. He wants Dante dead too.”
“Ah.” She pours us each a cup of tea, which she knows I won’t drink. I’m not a fucking tea drinker.
“So, now I don’t know what to do.”
“Finn, there’s something you’re not telling me. I can tell.”
“Good. Besides, the safety is on so you wouldn’t have been able to shoot anyway.”
