We all laugh before Piper adds, “By the looks of him, you’d scare him off before anything could happen. He might look like Superman, but he gives off early seasons Spencer Reid vibes.”
Mia actually smirks. “Honestly, that could be fun for me. But he’s got a girlfriend, and you know I’m not one to wreck homes.” We all cheers to that.
By the end of the night, Colette won both rounds. And for someone so nurturing and soft-hearted, she really does not play when it comes to competitions. The only thing we could do, minus Callum, was drink multiple pitchers of margaritas to deal with all the shit talking she laid on us.
Honestly, he’s a saint for putting up with five drunk women and getting us all home safely.

The next morning, Mia and I wake up dreading the idea of yoga, only to get a text from Piper in the group chat saying she needs more time to sleep otherwise she’ll be a “real peach” at Theo’s.
After I’m done making my caramel brownies and showering, I start looking for something to wear. I turn my wardrobe upside down and finally settle on a comfortably cute vibe, wearing a deep blue spaghetti strap top, my favorite cream-colored chunky cardigan, black jeans, and a pair of chucks.
Mia comes in, telling me I should ditch the bra that was showing to mess with Spencer.
In all fairness, I really want to see him blush, which is why I take her advice.
My hair is all over the place, refusing to once again be tamed, especially around my face.
So, I secure the top section back into a messy top knot and spray the little flyaways down.
Swiping on a bit of mascara and lip stain, I give myself a once over noting that you can most definitely see my nipple rings and walk out of my room before I chicken out and throw my bra back on.
As we head out the door, I shoot a text to Spencer.
We’re about to head over. Need anything?
Spencer
Nope. Just you.
Mia looks over to see the message and smiles. “Man, what a cheese ball.”
“He really is. It’s refreshing.”
She bumps my hip with hers. “It’s also refreshing to see you look so happy. And even if this isn’t real, he genuinely makes you happy.”
It hits me how right she is. I haven’t felt this kind of happiness with anyone else outside of being with my best friends. I don’t even know when the last time I felt happy with Chance was.
When we got engaged maybe?
When I really sit and think about our relationship, was I an absolute fool for thinking he ever loved me? That I could’ve fixed the rift that was always there from the start?
When we pull into Theo’s driveway, I see Colette sitting on the front porch and sigh. Mia looks over and says, “I don’t understand why she does this with him. I love my brother, but he is an idiot. Whatever he did to make her act this way, he needs to fix ASAP. ”
“You’re right.”
Colette stands up with her gigantic salad bowl when we get out of the car so Mia asks, “Why didn’t you just head inside instead of waiting for us?”
“Piper, Cori, and Callum aren’t here yet, and I didn’t feel like mingling with other people.”
Mia laughs. “By people do you mean Teddy?”
Colette just shrugs. “No. I just didn’t want to go in without one of you.”
Spencer must have noticed us standing out on the porch because he comes out to ask if we need any help. And of course, Mia being her pesky self, asks, “Where is that dashing brother of yours? Did he not want to come out to help such delicate women?”
“Mia, I gotta be honest, I think the last thing you three are is delicate.” Then with a small chuckle he admits, “Also, I’m pretty sure you scare Beckett.”
Her smile becomes absolutely feline, and before she starts walking inside, she adds, “Excellent.”
Spence turns back, looks me up and down, his eyes stopping momentarily on my chest before coming back to my face. “You look beautiful.”
I feel myself turning red and catch Colette grinning before she heads inside as well. “Thank you. You look pretty handsome yourself.”
He grabs the tray out of my hands, lifting the lid to see what’s inside, causing the sexiest groan to come deep from his chest. “These smell fucking incredible. I think I might have to take them over to my truck, so no one else can get any. Also, when you break up with me at the end of the month, I think I deserve a whole batch of these to help mend my broken heart.”
“How about instead, you get the first pick today, and I’ll make you a double batch when I kick you to the curb?”
He taps his chin as if thinking my offer over. “Nope.”
He starts to make his way to the truck, but I grab his arm. He looks at me as he laughs and raises the platter over his head. “Now what are you gonna do, Shortstack? ”
I think about it for a second. I’m definitely not going to attempt to reach for the tray.
And I know at the very least he finds me attractive—I’ve seen how he looks at me. Why not use that to my advantage?
I glance at his lips, fully devouring the full smirk that spreads across his face, and then look into his eyes before slowly moving my hand up his body.
Starting at his waist, which causes him to tense, and I savor in the feel of just how muscular he is.
Letting my hands rub all over his chest, feeling his heart beat faster.
I stand on my tiptoes, looking away from his eyes back down to his mouth, then slowly back up to his pupils that are now blown wide, and lean in for a kiss. He looks surprised but leans into me and as he does, he starts to lower the arm holding the tray of brownies.
We are so close that I feel his breath against my lips. Before his lips can meet mine, I whisper while grabbing the brownies, “Don’t underestimate me, Daredevil.”
I walk away smiling and look over to see Mia and Colette in the window with the biggest grins. Mia jerks her head beyond me, and I look back to see Spencer smiling down at the ground.
