Page 60 of While He Breathes
ORION
Iguide Ember into the warehouse once I’ve slipped my mask into place.
None of our staff is here today, but I know better than to let myself be complacent.
That’s how you get unmasked, or worse, dead.
Once I caught my breath, I carefully repositioned Ember’s panties and refused to let her clean up.
There’s something about knowing she’s going into a meeting with another man full of my cum that does weird shit to my brain, and I’m not going to question it.
I know better than to think too hard about anything I do when it comes to Ember, because it’s all fucking crazy.
At least I’m self-aware enough to know that.
“You’re late,” Killian says from his spot behind the computer, his eyes moving over that before rolling. Apparently, we didn’t do a very good job of hiding the fact we’re both freshly fucked. “You two smell like a brothel.”
Ember’s cheeks heat, but I can’t help but smirk.
Good.
“What do you need, Killian? I have shit to do.”
He opens his mouth to snap back a response, but quickly closes it when I level him with a hard stare. He got one comment, but he’s not going to make my little flame feel bad about what we did on our way here.
“As I said in my message, the team that unloaded the ship reported it was significantly lighter than it should have been.”
“How much are we talking?”
“Thirty percent is missing.”
My brows raise in surprise, and a soft gasp comes from beside me. “Have you reached out to the supplier?”
Killian nods, his eyes flicking between Ember and me. “They’re not returning my calls.”
I curse. This has happened a time or two in the almost decade I’ve been running this business, but it never gets any less annoying to deal with. If we can’t repair our relationship with the supplier, we’ll have to retaliate, and after we’ve wiped them out, we’ll need to find a new one.
Two things I really cannot be fucking dealing with now that I have a woman I want to tie to my bed and fuck all day and night.
Very inconvenient timing indeed.
A war also wouldn’t be a very good introduction for Ember to the business.
Ember takes the seat across from Killian while I take up standing behind her.
“Can I use your laptop?” she asks him.
His eyes widen slightly, but he turns the computer around, and she drags it closer to her.
Ember reads over the documents on the screen before swapping to the web browser and switching it into private mode before searching for something.
She opens tab after tab, her fingers moving over the keyboard quickly and efficiently, leaving Killian and me to watch her.
He looks up at me with questions in his eyes, as if I have any more answers than he does right now, but both of us look back to Ember within seconds.
I’ve watched her work a few times on the cameras in her old apartment, and even earlier today when she was searching for Lucas, but this is different, and I can’t quite explain why.
Maybe it’s because, without hesitation, she jumped in to help us. She didn’t question it, didn’t ask permission. She just jumped right into the problem, and I can’t help but feel a little impressed.
