Chapter 14

Romulus

H er bottom is round and perfect, and I want to possess her in every way possible. Moonpetals or not, this female must become my mate. After tonight, if she doesn’t agree to it, I’ll crack in two. My body hums with the desire to pound into her, but I have to hold onto a thread of my self-control. My magic swirls inside of me, ready to work, to protect, to do whatever my potential mate desires to be done. I swallow, trying to keep from coming all over her smooth skin right now. It doesn’t look as if I should fit into her tightness. But the first time didn’t hurt her, so I brace myself on her hips and push myself inside bit by bit. My thrusting sends her forward on the grass, and she tightens her hold on my wing claws, keeping her hips lifted in invitation.

“Laini, gods, you are…”

She only moans softly in response.

Her heat envelopes me, her size so very tight on my girth. I really don’t fit. It’s almost too tight, which is truly perfect. Working my way in, I drive into her farther. She gasps, and I pause to make sure she is all right. She moans my name, so I shove my hips forward. A cry of pleasure peals from her lips. I slide out halfway; then slowly, I plunder her again and again.

“Rom, yes. Gods, yes, yes…”

Desire shivers through my entire body, and my balls clench under her warmth. I lean forward to fondle her heavy breasts. Her soft mounds are like a fire to the kindling of my desire, and I am fully aflame now. I can’t hold on any longer. Straightening and gripping her hips firmly, I drive my length hard into her narrow, wet heat, smacking skin against skin. The scent of her want has me bursting inside of her in seconds.

I wrap us in my wings and lay her beside me—My stomach against her back. Leaning slightly, she mumbles something soft and sweet as she hooks one leg over me. I peer through my wings to check for any evidence that my stone magic escaped and caused harm, but the clearing appears unaffected. I did it. I managed to control my power even when riled up. My lips spread in a wide smile. I could never have imagined a life like this. I thought I was doomed to loneliness.

Laini’s eyes flutter closed, and she pulls my hand so that it drapes over her stomach below her perfect, bare breasts. This determined female is so kind to creatures that most don’t care for—dragonfoxes and gargoyles. I huff a laugh into her golden hair. She’s so talented and independent. Such a wonder of a person. I’d never deserve her, but I’d be damned if I wasn’t going to try.

“Laini, I love you.”

Her eyes slide open, her green irises just a thin ring around her pupils. “I love you too, Romulus. And I don’t care who knows it.”

We rest for a while longer, and when we’re ready, we tidy ourselves, bid the moonpetals a fond farewell, and head back to the party hand in hand.
