VINCENZO
I walk into Teo’s house, the family home we grew up in, and head for his office. Pushing the door open, I see he’s on the phone, so I take a seat across from him and wait for him to finish his call.
“Yeah, that’s fine. Let me know when the new arrival date is for the shipment,” he says, then hangs up and tosses his phone on the desk.
I quirk a brow at him. “New arrival date?”
“Our newest supplier is late on their shipment. Said they had some issues on their end and it’s just leaving the port in Antwerp today.”
“Issues? Are we sensing foul play here?”
Teo leans forward on his desk, placing his forearms on the edge. “I’m not sure yet, but we need to keep a close eye on it. If this continues or we discover they’re doing some shady shit, we’ll get rid of them.”
I give him a nod. “I’ll look into it later.”
“You don’t have to do that. I know you have a lot going on right now.”
I scoff. “Teo, please, you know this is the shit I thrive on. I love sniffing out the fuckers who try to pull one over on us. Gives me an anger outlet. Why do you think I’m always in such a good mood?”
He chuckles. “That’s pretty sick, you know that, right?”
I give him a loose shrug. “It works for me,” I say with a smirk.
“So, what’s going on? Your message was annoyingly vague.”
I texted Teo this morning letting him know I needed to speak with him about the Velascos.
“I was paid a visit at the club last night.”
Teo’s eyes widen. “Velasco and Montoya finally made contact?”
“Yup, and they finally laid their cards out on the table. As we suspected, they’re here to form an alliance with us so they can get port access.”
“Figures,” Teo grumbles.
“I told them we don’t need an alliance with sex traffickers.”
He leans back in his seat with a smirk on his face. “I’m sure they loved that.”
“Montoya kept his mouth shut the entire time, but I can confirm Velasco did not.”
“So, what’s their plan now?”
“She said she’s going to let her uncle know our decision and move forward from there.”
Teo folds his arms across his chest and narrows his gaze on me. “Which means…?”
“Well, if what we know about the Velasco Cartel is true, I’d say that means we might end up in a war sooner rather than later.”
He lets out an annoyed sigh. “That’s not what we need right now.”
“Oh, I know, but don’t you worry your little head off, big bro. I’ve been keeping an eye on their suite, and she hasn’t made the call yet.”
“What makes you think she’s going to make the call in the suite?”
“Well, if I were to guess, she probably didn’t call him last night since she left the club late.
They both went to bed when they got back to the hotel, and I put an alert on my phone to let me know anytime there’s activity in their suite, so I know they haven’t called this morning.
They just got up on my way over here. Chances are, she’ll be making that phone call sometime soon. Speaking of, let me check real quick.”
I bring up the surveillance on my phone and click on Amalia’s room. She’s grabbing some clothes out of her dresser, still wearing the oversized T-shirt she wore to bed last night. It makes me wonder if it’s her shirt or…
I immediately push that invasive fucking thought out of my head.
Amalia walks over to her en suite bathroom, so I click on the corresponding video stream.
“What’s going on?” Teo asks.
“She’s in the bathroom,” I say, keeping my eyes glued to the screen.
“You had Cassius install a camera in the bathroom?” The shock in his tone draws my gaze up to meet his.
“Phone calls and important conversations can be had in bathrooms, Teo, so of course I made sure all our fucking bases were covered.”
“Sure,” he says with a grin on his face that I shake off, bringing my attention back to my phone screen. Amalia’s already in the shower, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a tad disappointed I missed the show. I might not like the woman, but she is fun to look at.
“She’s in the shower. I’ll make sure to keep an eye on it and let you know when she makes the call.”
Teo nods and says, “Good. We need to stay ahead of this. If we can avoid the war, let’s do that, but if it’s a war he wants, then we’ll start one on his territory first.”
“I’ll keep you updated.” I stand and leave his office to go get some work done, with nothing but my swirling thoughts trying to figure out what their next plan will be.
