Page 17 of Venomous Kiss
“My ex,” he says, just as I buckle myself back in and start to do up my shirt. I feel his eyes on me. “Does that make you feel uncomfortable?”
“No, should it?”
He smirks and turns back to the inky-colored expanse. “I guess not.”
I watch in fascination as he lands the plane, my attention split between him commanding the controls and the sky around us.
He’s definitely good at what he does, making it look easy. I wonder how long he has been doing this.
When we land, he stands and unbuckles me as if I didn’t just buckle myself into the seat, then tells me to follow him. He grabs my bag and carries it out the door. As soon as we step onto the tarmac, I notice a woman standing there. She’s looking down at her cell. She has long legs and is wearing a white shirt and a black miniskirt. She appears to be dressed for business, but in a hot, maybe even risky way.
“Hannah.”
She raises her head, and her gaze tracks to me. I arch a brow as I stand there, and she checks me out from head to toe, her eyes lingering on every curve and contour of my body.
“You brought company? You didn’t mention the company, Reon.”
“Must have forgotten,” he says dismissively as they walk to a car that is awaiting his arrival on the tarmac while other men walk to the plane with a nod from Reon. She climbs into the back, and Reon opens the front passenger door. “We have to talk,” he says to me, referring to Hannah.
I nod and take the passenger seat as a driver sits in the car, waiting. I can feel her stare as he slides into the back seat behind me.
“Why are you bringing company on business trips?”
“That is my business, Hannah.” His jaw tightens as he briefly glances at Hannah, and I look away, staring out the window and listening as they talk.
“Are you fucking her?”
“Yes.”
I feel my lips tug up in a smile.
“Okay, fine. I need you back in New York tomorrow. Preferably tonight, but I know you won’t listen to me.”
“You’ve spoken to Earl?” Reon asks her.
“Of course. Without me and Earl, you’d be lost.”
“No, if I didn’t have you both, it would just mean I’d have to do more work.” He pauses. “Are you not going to say hello to my friend?”
“Hello, friend. What is your full name, please?”
I turn my head toward her, and her sharp eyes lock onto me.
“Lilith Davenport,” I tell her, and she starts typing away on her cell.
“She’s married. You’re fucking a married woman?” Hannah says to Reon. I catch him smiling at me, and I smile back before I face the front and look out my window.
“I guess I am,” he replies nonchalantly.
“So, you knew. Do you need the drama that comes with a married woman?”
“Do you want him? Is that why you’re upset?” I ask her. “I’m only here for the night. Once I leave, he’s all yours again.”
“Hannah is married to my sister, Abigail,” Reon says. “She realized after a month of seeing me that she preferred my sister more.”
I laugh and angle my head over my shoulder to look at him.
“Did that hurt your ego? You know… that she preferred your sister over you?”
