Page 72 of Veiled Flames (Destiny of Dragons #1)
Zogar
Being in my human body, my true body, feels like coming home.
Especially after four hundred years trapped as a dragon but unable to fly, unable to shift or access most of my powers.
Much has changed during my years in captivity. Everything in Lymbo has died or been rendered otherwise lifeless. Someone or something has destroyed all living things here. Or perhaps cast a spell turning everything dormant. But why? Who would do this?
And why didn’t the Council of Darkness prevent it. Nothing makes sense. Not yet.
My bride, Rosomon, was right to fear this side of the veil. I didn’t sense deception in her, but my young queen is ignorant of so many things. Her mind is full of superstitions about some deity called Othrix, and so I assumed her fears were based on the stories of humans versus reality.
I must find out what happened and put everything right, but first I must restore my full powers.
Given my depleted state, claiming a queen is the fastest, perhaps only way for me to restore my powers.
I never expected to take a mate. But I never believed my magic could be drained to the point I’d need one.
And I also never thought I’d be trapped in dragon form and hobbled for four hundred years.
Once I discover who tricked me, once I discover who entrapped me and my people, I will burn them all to ash. I will devour them whole. I will bring my full wrath upon all those complicit.
And if humans were responsible—as I strongly suspect—short-lived mortals no longer in existence, I will bring my wrath upon every single one of their descendants.
The reigning Kings and Queens of the Seven Kingdoms—and all of their offspring—will die for the crimes of their ancestors.
I’m grateful that Rosomon agreed to this marriage—even if her consent was only to save the lives of her human lovers.
The reasons for her vow do not matter. The only thing that matters is our wedding and the consummation of our marriage.
From this day forward, Rosomon will be my wife, my queen.
Zogar sweeps me through the veil and into the dreaded Darkness. There, I discover he's not just the King of the Dragons—he's a massive man who's been trapped in dragon form for four hundred years.
Freed, he seeks vengeance against the descendants of those who captured and enslaved his people, including Tynan, Saxon—and me.
Worse, Zogar intends to hold me to my desperate promise to marry him—a vow made only to save the men I’m falling for.
Prince Tynan and I only just discovered our passion, and I’m not ready to give him up so soon. And while I can’t ever forgive Dragon Master Saxon, I also can’t stop thinking about the mysterious older man who awakened desires and pleasures I’d never imagined.
While Tynan and Saxon desperately search for me, time moves differently in the Darkness. A day for me becomes a month for them, and when we’re finally reunited, more secrets are revealed and our passions grow.
But with war brewing and distrust threatening to tear my men apart, I may have to choose between my heart’s desires and the fate of the Seven Kingdoms.
