THE UNSEEN

A fter parking my Harley a block away, I switch my helmet for my mask and head toward Club Oblivion.

I add myself to the long line outside the club, listening with half an ear to the conversations around me as I keep a diligent eye on my surroundings.

My gaze catches on a black sedan gliding past, something about it demanding every ounce of my attention.

When it turns into the entrance to the underground parking, I slip out of the line and follow it.

It’s as if an invisible chord has wrapped around me, steering me toward the car and its occupants, and I’m helpless to resist its pull. Once inside, I duck behind cars, skirting the edges while making my way closer.

When a man matching Rafe’s description steps from the car, I freeze.

That must be him. He helps a woman out, and relief washes over me.

She’s alive. And that’s when I fuck up. My foot brushes a pebble, sending it flying against the concrete wall.

The man crushes Tessa against the car, and fury ignites my blood.

He handles her roughly, dragging her unwilling body toward the elevator.

A second man follows on his heels, his gaze skirting the lot but sliding over me as if I’m invisible.

Just like everyone else’s does.

When the doors swish closed behind them, I step out from between the cars and will my tightly clenched fists to relax.

I don’t know who they are or what they want from Tessa, but I’m going to find out.

The way he was handling her proves she’s with them unwillingly.

She’s suffered enough. I won’t let anyone else hurt her, no matter what it might cost me.

After clocking the reserved parking and the car’s license plate number, I tuck a tracker under the rear bumper before slipping away. I’ll find out who they are and make them pay for taking what isn’t theirs.

They’ll beg for death before I’m through with them.
