“You’d win,” she says, voice going soft.

She thinks I’m the safe one. The sweet one. But if she asked me to fuck her right here, right now, on this picnic blanket with God and the ducks watching, I would. I’d make her come with my fingers buried so deep she’d forget anyone else existed.

“I’d let it maul me if it made you laugh.”

She climbs into my lap, all softness and sin, and I can feel her thighs straining to straddle me fully. I help her settle, one hand guiding her hips like I’ve done it a hundred times before, andplan to do it a hundred more, until she fits against me without question.

She kisses me like I passed some test, answered the question right, and I’m hers now, even if she never says it out loud.

I kiss her like I already knew.

I’m three seconds from unzipping when I hear Margo.

“For fuck’s sake, Benji,” Margo shrills.

My boner dies a tragic death.

“Did your new little sideshow tell you she threatened me?” Margo says.

Delilah laughs. “I most certainly did not. I haven’t seen you since you showed up while I was still dripping Benji down my thigh.”

“Vulgar,” Margo says. “You left a threat on my porch. I stubbed my toe.”

“That’s because you’ve got hooves. Evolution said ‘no thanks’ and skipped delicacy entirely,” Delilah says.

“Precious?” I say.

“She wanted a gnome. I was being polite,” Delilah says.

“I…” Margo says.

“You did ask for a gnome?” Delilah says.

“You know very well that’s not what I mean and the note?” Margo says.

Delilah nuzzles my neck. “It was true. Not a threat. He’s not into you. He’s very much into me, would be hilt deep if you’d take your clomping ass elsewhere.”

Margo storms off, muttering curses.

Delilah licks my neck. “You still like me?” she asks, so soft I almost miss it.

“Very much,” I say and tuck her under my chin, breathing in her hair.

“She’s not going to be a problem,” she says, like she’s actively plotting Margo’s disappearance.

“Delilah…” I warn.

“What? I’m just saying she’s got an unfortunate face and a very flammable porch.”

I snort. Can’t help it. “You are… absolutely terrifying.”

“And you’re hard again.” She grins against my throat and drags her fingers down my stomach. Then says, “Don’t leave. Even when I make it hard not to,” just vulnerable enough to gut me.

I wrap my arms around her like armor. “I won’t,” I promise. “Even if your worm files a restraining order.”
