The second guard entered the room. Both held guns, and there was not a damned thing I could do about it.
I walked out of the room first and took a right, wondering if the two assholes would really shoot us in front of others. I’d been involved in enough cases to know they would concoct some half-believable story about how I broke into the house, and they shot me for trespassing. Or maybe they would dump our bodies into the ocean and let the sharks have their way.
My goal was still the same, though. I needed a word with Veronica. This was all her doing anyway. Eventually, I would take care of the two guards the way I took care of the guys in the alley.
Chrissy, Stephanie, and I started down the steps, the two guards opting to stay at the top and watch us. At the bottom of the steps, another guard patted me down. Veronica was afraid of something. What?
The guard led us to a closed door and walked away.
“I’m sorry,” Stephanie said. She’d been backtracking her bad girl façade ever since she slapped me. “We shouldn’t have brought you here.”
“It’s too late now.” I opened the door and stepped forward, my mind immediately blown by what was in front of me.
