Page 65 of Touch Her and Die
“He doesn’t look real, does he? Maybe he’s my guardian angel?”
Emilee snorted. “Oh, Halle, I’m sure of that. Although maybe like a vengeful jealous demon is more like it.”
I shrugged and stopped right in front of the officiate.
“Is this everyone?”
Parks nodded and reached for my hands. I handed Emilee the bouquet and let him hold me.
“We are gathered here today—” the officiate was cut off.
“Ironic, isn’t it? That you’ll die the same way my father died?”
We all turned to see a man that was not invited. He was rumpled and had a crazy glare in his eyes. My favorite kind of glare. A man with nothing to lose.
“Who the hell are you?” I asked.
He sneered. “Guess you didn’t know I wasn’t on the guest list at that mockery of a wedding, did you?”
I looked at Parks who looked at the guy.
“That’s the youngest of the Voigt kids. Guess he wasn’t there. I didn’t actually know.”
The guy wiped his forehead.
“Are you feeling okay?” Emilee asked.
He pulled his gun out, and it wavered.
We all yelled mine at the same time, but I grabbed my knife from my garter belt and threw it first. I jumped up and down as I hit him in the neck. Emilee missed and got his stomach and Parks, well Parks was Parks and won. If this had been a competition.
“Damn it. You got him between the eyes? You are so damn sexy.”
I turned back to the officiate and paused as Parks’ brother broke the line.
“Damn it, guys. Can’t we just not kill someone one fucking day?”
The wind blew, and the guy dropped to the sand.
“Fuck it. I’ll check him later,” Nate said.
And I turned to the officiate again.
“So sorry. Please continue. No one is going to ruin my wedding day.”

“Look Halle,I don’t know what I did this time, but you can’t just go around killing every female that looks at me. You’re acting crazy.”
I pulled her into the bathroom of my office, away from any prying eyes.
“I didn’t kill her. I just threatened her. I’ll just tell Emilee to fire her.”
I glared at her.
“And what? Should I go get the barista at the coffee place across the street fired? He fucking gave you his number on your damn cup.”
She blinked several times and stuck out her lip.
