I didn’t want to look again. I wasn’t the girl in the horror movie who looks again and gets killed. No, I was the one listening to everyone scream, “Run,” and I would run away. But I knew about wolf shifters. Whoever it was, they could hear me in here. Were they listening to me on the phone?
“Please, go away. Please, leave. I don’t know who you are but if you’re a good guy, please leave because you’re scaring me.”
I counted to thirty, then slowly inched my way back to the curtain. I held it so carefully so as not to fully open it, just enough to see if they were still out there.
The bush was empty now, no glowing eyes. I looked around the street to see if they were hiding anywhere else, but I couldn’t see anything. Whoever it was had left.
That was creepy. Were they right next to my window the whole time? I was going to need to tell Lexi… or maybe just Galen. I didn’t want to worry her and I was sure he could work out who it was.
For all I knew it could have been Noah.
It wouldn’t have been Saint. I hadn’t seen him all week and that was new. I think he finally decided he didn’t want me, and that was fine. I didn’t want him either… not at all. I would keep telling myself that until it hurt a little less.
Even if it was for the best, rejection still hurt.
