Chapter Twenty-Two

SORAYA ‘YAYA’ CRAWFORD

Four months later

I was nine months into my pregnancy and scheduled for my c- section in two more weeks.

I was literally all belly, just as I had been for the last two pregnancies.

Because I was carrying twins, my stomach was huge, and I wanted nothing more in the world than to get these two little girls out of me because they were killing my back and weighing me down.

Whenever I was out in public, I would receive compliment after compliment about how I was carrying so well, and although that was true, I felt like the cute stage was over, and I was now in the stage where I felt like I was fighting for my life.

We had a house full right now because we were hosting a nesting party.

I made it clear early on in my pregnancy that I didn’t want anything top of the line.

I didn’t want a big, grand gender reveal like how we did with Sarai, and I didn’t want a big baby shower, either.

I just wanted small, intimate events that were surrounded by nothing but family, and close friends.

A few months ago, my mom suggested that I at least do a nesting party, and I agreed to it, not seeing the harm in that, and feeling like that would be something that I enjoyed.

Of course, my mom was here, my sister, Milan, my boys, and I even invited some of my crew from work.

Law had a few of his colleagues from work come over, who invited their wives, and he also invited Freddy, and some of the other men that were once cool with his father, and he still kept in touch with.

Everyone was somewhere, spread out at our house, doing a job.

My job was to just walk around, and micromanage, and that’s exactly what I had been doing all afternoon long.

As I was walking down the stairs, someone was ringing the doorbell.

I waddled my ass over to the door, looked out into the peephole, just so I could see who was standing on the other side, and when I saw who it was, and who she brought with her, I beamed, quickly turning the knob, opening the door for them.

“Oh, my Goddddd. You listened to me, and your brought the babies. Hiiiiii,” I cooed, looking at the most beautiful little boy, and little girl that I’ve ever seen before in my life.

It was Alecia, Montana, and they brought the kids.

Their son, Marcellus stood right in front of Alecia, and I died with baby fever, watching him stand in front of me.

He had the most perfect chocolate skin, but then he had hazel-colored eyes like his dad.

It was fall, so he stood there in a cream-colored long sleeve top from Ralph Lauren.

He wore denim jeans, and a fresh pair of wheat colored timberland boots that looked to be fresh out of the box.

His little chain was around his neck, and my God, don’t even get me started on the straight back braids that he had in his hair, that went down his back.

“Hiiii. Why does it look like you got taller from the last time I saw you? You are so handsome,” I cooed, going down to his level, so that I could look him in his eyes. He ate up my words, smiling, and I nearly died when I saw his little dimples.

Like he was my baby, I picked him up, holding his little body in my arms. Marcellus was three, but I knew from Alecia that he would be four in a couple of months.

“Alecia, girl, I want him,” I told her, and she laughed.

“You’re going to be bringing him right back. Trust me. Don’t let that innocent face fool you. He gets down,” she replied, and then smiled, as her eyes dropped to my belly.

“Yaya, look at youuuu. You look so beautiful,” she complimented me, and I gave the compliment right back to her because she was honestly drop dead gorgeous.

“Yaya, what’s good? Your carrying those babies well,” Montana said, using his free hand to hug me.

His other hand was wrapped around their beautiful daughter, Marlee.

Marlee was two years old, and just from the way she was lying on her dad, with her little thumb in her mouth, I could tell that she was a daddy’s girl, and she didn’t play that mess when it came to her dad.

She was a tiny little thing, and she had chocolate skin just like her mom, and the same hazel eyes as her dad and brother.

I could tell from the annoyed look on her face that she had just woken up.

She wore Ralph Lauren just like her brother, but she wore a cream-colored dress, with little brown boots on her feet, that were so adorable on her.

She had so much hair, and it was pulled up into two pigtails.

“Thank you, Montana. Hi, pretty girl,” I cooed to her, as I lowered Marcellus down to the floor. Marlee’s little butt didn’t want anything to do with me. She straight up ignored me and then buried her head into the crook of her daddy’s arm, so that I wouldn’t see her face.

I laughed because I thought back to my baby Sarai and how much of a daddy’s girl she was, and those days when she wouldn’t want anything to do with me, but everything to do with Law.

“She thinks that’s her man,” Alecia told me, and I chuckled.

“Marlee, I have candy in the house. Cupcakes, juice, cake. What you want?” I tried to bribe her. She peeked her little head out, and she looked at me.

“Candy,” her little voice was so cute.

“Come with me, and I’ll get it for you,” I bribed, putting my hands out for her. Montana was looking at his daughter, with a smile on his face, like he was so in love with her, and she eventually put her little arms out for me, and I grabbed her.

“I got gifts in the trunk, so I’ll go grab them,” Montana announced, now, that I had Marlee.

I thanked him, telling him that I would leave the door open for him to come in, and then I walked Alecia through the house, who was on my right side, and she held onto her son’s hand, while I carried Marlee.

Anyone that we passed, that Alecia didn’t know, I made sure to do the introductions.

We made it to the kitchen, where there were all kinds of custom treats, with labels that read, ‘ Soraya’s nesting party’ .

My sister had got in contact with someone who did party treats, so there was so much to choose from.

I held onto Marlee, and I reached for Marcellus’s hand, taking them both over to the treats, letting them pick out whatever they wanted.

Marlee opted on the custom skittles that were there, and Marcellus grabbed the rice Krispie treats.

When both of their little voices thanked me, I was in baby heaven, seeing how nice, and well-mannered the kids were.

“Where you want me? You see I came in with my sneakers. I’m prepared to go outside and put something together if you need me to,” Alecia let out, and I laughed.

“Girl, the men are outside building a jungle gym. Look out that window,” I pointed with my finger, sitting Marlee down on the counter, so that I could open the candy that she’d given to me.

Alecia looked out the window, where she saw Law, and the guys putting the jungle gym together that the girls wouldn’t even be able to play on until they were probably one years old.

“They going to be so spoiled. Three men in the house to look after them. The newborn stage is when you are really in the trenches with motherhood, but it’s also one of my favorite stages. Sometimes, I miss when my babies were newborns,” she admitted, and I smiled.

“Have another one. My kids need someone to grow up with,” I joked, and she groaned.

“I don’t miss the newborn stage that much,” she replied.

I had Alecia come upstairs, where most of the women were, so that I could find a job for her. I’ve started washing the clothes for our girls, so there was a big load that needed to be folded. I gave that job to Alecia, and she was happy about it.

She came out of her sneakers when we were downstairs, and she quickly got in folding duty once we were upstairs.

We were standing in the girls nursery, where my mom and sister were.

Milan was on baby proof duty, so she was somewhere in the house, putting the plugs into the outlets.

I was watching the kids. Marlee, and Marcellus were both on either side of me, and they quietly ate the snacks that they had, and each of their little hands were on my stomach, as they looked over at their mom, who was folding the clothes.

“The baby going to sleep in here?” Marcellus asked me, cocking his little head to the side.

The women in the room heard his question, so they all cooed, right along with me.

I swear, he was giving the whole room baby fever, even my mom, who stopped what she was doing with the drapes that she was hanging up, as she turned to look at him.

“It’s two babies. Two baby girls. They’ll probably sleep in here just for their naps during the day, but at night, they’ll sleep with me and their daddy.

What about you? You sleep in your room like a big boy?

” I asked him, and he laughed, and his laugh showed so much of his features that he’d inherited from his dad.

“Sometimes. I like to sleep with mommy,” he told the truth.

“You want mommy to have another baby?” I asked him, dying to hear what his response was going to be.

“No!” he was quick with his response, making us all laugh, including Alecia.

“Why don’t you want your mom to have another baby?” I asked him.

“Babies cry too much,” he said.

“As if he wasn’t the biggest crybaby out of both my kids,” Alecia said, from where she stood, folding the clothes.

We talked about so many things in this room.

So much work had gotten done as well. After sitting down for a while, I stood up, telling the kids that I was going to be right back because I needed to use the bathroom.

I went down the hall, and I checked in both my boys room, and they weren’t in there.

I’m sure they were somewhere in this house, doing a job just like everyone else was.
