We were barely past the threshold to my house when I grabbed Pauline by her hips and pushed her against the front door.

She yelped in surprise before I covered her lips with mine.

My kiss was bruising and possessive, just how I had imagined kissing her ever since we had started talking on the app.

Our tongues intertwined in a mad dance for control.

Pauline gave in to me easily, and I growled in approval as I continued kissing her.

She grabbed my arms for support. I leaned more of my body weight against her and grabbed the undersides of her tights. She understood what I wanted and immediately wrapped her legs around my hips.

We continued kissing until we were both out of breath. Pauline moved her hips against me in a steady rhythm, looking at me through hooded eyes. We both wanted the same thing—to be even closer to each other.

I stepped back from the door, taking more of Pauline’s weight into my arms. I carried her towards the stairs but changed my mind when my gaze landed on the living room couch instead.

“Too many stairs?” Pauline chuckled.

I growled. “Too many.” I deposited her gently on the couch.

Ray, was being taken care of by the family of one of my friends, so there was no risk of anybody walking in on us having sex in the living room. We had the whole house to ourselves.

Gazing into Pauline’s eyes, I took a good look at the white wedding dress she was wearing. “How do you take this off?”

She laughed out loud, her eyes twinkling with joy. I almost felt embarrassed, but… how was I supposed to know how to take off such a complicated outfit? I didn’t want to destroy the dress.

“Help me up.” Pauline extended a hand to me.

I helped her sit up on the couch. She turned her back to me, keeping her back straight. “There’s a line of small buttons on the back. You have to help me open them.”

I nodded. Pauline’s fiery-red hair was partially done up while the rest of it fell down her back.

She would be more comfortable without the clips in her hair, so I started removing them first. She sighed in relief when her hair came loose.

I moved the strands gently to the side, revealing the nape of her neck.

I took a good look at the tiny buttons of the dress again and devised a plan.

I kissed a trail from the back of her neck down to the buttons. Gently, I opened one of them, then kissed the exposed skin. Then I did the same for another button and another. I heard Pauline’s breath hitch with every kiss, and her skin flushed an even deeper red.

Finally, when I was down to the last button, I tugged at the skirt on her hips, helping her out of the dress.

She had a chemise underneath, which I removed too.

She stood up, facing away from me, wearing nothing but white lace panties and stockings.

She kept her arms crossed over her breasts, and the redness of her skin told me she was embarrassed.

I took my tie off, then my jacket and dress shirt. I kicked off my shoes and removed my pants. Next came my boxers; my erection immediately sprang up. I was already hard for her, ready to make Pauline mine.

When the only sound I could hear was Pauline’s breathing, I said in a commanding alpha tone. “Turn around.”

She jumped up, surprised I had used the command on her.

She turned around, and her eyes widened at the sight of my erect cock.

She licked her lips, which made me imagine her on her knees, my dick deep in her throat.

I doubted I would last long if we tried that act together.

Besides, what I really wanted was to be inside her.

“Are you sure you want this?” I asked for her consent. If she said no now, I would stop things. It would be painful, but I didn’t want to do anything against her will.

Pauline looked me in the eye and nodded, biting her lower lip.

“I need to hear it,” I growled.

“Y-Yes,” she said softly. “I want you, Oliver.”

I sprang towards her and pulled her down onto the couch, getting on top of her. Pauline looked at me with eyes full of wonder, like she couldn’t believe this moment was happening. I had to prove to her that being with me here was real.

She was my wife now—the realization sunk in fully. Pauline was mine.

I kissed her again, deeply and possessively. One of my hands palmed her breast—small but firm—while my other hand grabbed her leg and wrapped it over my hip. I positioned my cock at her entrance. I ground into her pussy without entering her.

“You’re so wet for me,” I said in wonder.

A soft groan escaped her lips. “Take me, Oliver,” she begged, moving underneath me to get the friction she wanted.

I didn’t need to be told twice that she wanted me. I pushed myself into her in a shallow first thrust. Pauline moaned. I pulled out and thrust again—I went deeper this time. She was so tight. My cock stretched her opening, filling her completely. Moving in and out of her felt incredible.

“Yes,” Pauline chanted over and over again.

I kneeled on the bed, towering over her. The change in position made her moan louder. I continued thrusting into Pauline until I found her G-spot.

“Oliver,” she called out my name, surprise, and lust in her tone.

I smirked. “Yes, that’s right. It’s me that’s fucking you right now. Say my name again,” I commanded.

As I thrust into Pauline over and over again, she continued calling my name, looking at me through hooded eyes.

“I’m close,” she said.

“So am I. Let’s come together,” I replied.

Three thrusts later, we both came apart. The orgasm that hit me was the strongest I had felt in a long time. When I came down from the high, I pulled out of the drowsy-looking Pauline and got up from the couch.

She didn’t look like she could go for another round immediately. The night had been long, and we danced a lot, so I wasn’t surprised she was tired.

I took Pauline in my arms and carried her up the stairs. I laid her gently on my bed and crawled in beside her, spooning her from behind.

“Goodnight,” she said in a weak but satisfied voice.

I chuckled. “Don’t think I’ll just let you sleep until morning.”

“Just a bit…” She yawned.

I nuzzled her hair and waited for sleep to claim me for now, too.

Rays of light shone through the windows straight into my face. I squirmed and opened my eyes only to be greeted by the most beautiful sight ever. Pauline was in my arms. Calmness filled my heart, and I felt peace knowing I now had someone special as part of my life.

Sure, we had entered an arranged marriage, but if Pauline thought of me only as a contractual husband she wouldn’t so readily have agreed to consummate our marriage, right?

She wouldn’t have been with me with such enthusiasm throughout the night.

She wanted me—I could tell from the way she had looked at me, the way she had moved her hips beneath me.

None of what had happened last night was a lie.

Pauline stirred and blinked. Her gorgeous green eyes bored into mine. She first appeared surprised, but a soft smile appeared on her lips a moment later. My fast-beating heart calmed down once again.

“Hi,” she said in a soft, tired voice.

I smiled. “Hi, yourself.”

She frowned and bit her lip, which I had learned to read as a sign of her thinking about something deeply.

“What is it?” I raised my eyebrows.

“About our life moving forward… I’ll need your help in adjusting to our new reality,” she sighed.

“I’ve lived as part of Lone Bite for thirteen years, and…

things were different there. If you could introduce me to people again—even though I feel like most of the pack introduced themselves to me yesterday already— that would be a great help.

I also need to figure out my place here. ”

“One thing at a time,” I chuckled.

Her frown deepened. “I would also like you to know… what happened between us,” she gestured between herself and me. “This closeness we had doesn’t mean I trust you yet.”

“Oh?” I gave her a surprised look.

She nodded, her expression turning grim. “Don’t take it personally. I’m just not someone who trusts easily. The night we shared… was nice. When I’m ready to sleep with you again, I’ll tell you. Please give me time to adjust to our new life. I want to give our future together a good chance.”

I didn’t entirely understand where Pauline was coming from with her line of thought, but at least she wasn’t pushing me away entirely. She wasn’t regretting the night we’d had. She just needed more time and space.

Still, she wasn’t mine yet.

The thought stung, and it made the wolf in my soul growl. I told it to calm down, though. We were on the right track for Pauline to accept us. She only needed to get to know us better, to get used to life at Moondust Hollow again.

Patience, Oliver, I told myself.

I would wait for as long as Pauline needed to want me as her mate.

Mate, what a wonderful thought. After tonight, I knew Pauline could possibly be my mate—if she wanted to be. I would have to make her want me as much as I longed for her.

“Alright,” I nodded. “I’ll do everything I can to help you adjust to our new life together.”

She smiled then, looking relieved.

Since we were discussing difficult matters, I decided to bring up one more thing that was bothering me. “The vision you had when the agent introduced us—could you tell me about what you saw?”

Pauline frowned again. “It was strange. I was running, someone was chasing me. I had Ray in my arms. The wolves that came after us wanted to harm us. And then you appeared—in your wolf form—but I knew it was you. And you protected us. I knew I had to stay close to you to survive.”

So it was only survival instinct that had pushed Pauline into marrying me? No, that fact wasn’t the whole truth. I had seen the desire in her eyes last night. Still, I wasn’t entirely sure I liked her answer.

“Over the years, I’ve had my visions,” she continued. “I’ve learned to trust them wholeheartedly. That’s why, I… wanted to give you a chance.”

She looked guilty, and I realized I had a grim look on my face. I relaxed my features. With a soft smile, I said, “You’re right that I will do everything in my power to protect you and your son.”

She smiled and nodded. “Thank you for helping us.” She then sighed softly. “Do you have any plans for today?”

“I need to go to work,” I groaned. “But I’ll be back in the evening.”

She nodded again and patted my arm gently. “I’ll be home with Ray.”

The thought that she’d be waiting at home when I returned warmed my heart.

I remembered the first time I had seen her, back in high school. Her long red hair covered her eyes as she looked down at the book she held. I tried to guess what she was reading but couldn’t. The book looked thick, so my guess was something fantasy-related.

Then she shifted in her seat and looked out of the window; that was the first time I saw her face. She had beautiful petite features, including a pointy nose and so many freckles that she almost seemed to have stars dusting complexion.

I stared at her, mesmerized.

She closed the book slightly, interested in something that was happening outside. From the sound coming through the half-open window, a soccer match must be going on in the school field.

So not only did she like to read fantasy, but she also liked sports.

I finally caught sight of the title of the book she was reading and recognized it immediately—a comedic, feel-good fantasy, one in a series of over forty books.

I had read all of them in the past. It was fascinating that the two of us had the same taste—assuming she was enjoying the book, of course.

I had to find out.

I approached the gorgeous girl and put on my killer smile. “Hey, do you like the book you’re reading?”

She looked at me, disinterest changing to a glimmer of attraction.

Hope bloomed in my heart; I hoped she felt the same magnetic pull I felt for me.

We were too young to find our fated mates—that discovery usually happened at twenty-two—but if I had to imagine who my lifelong partner would be, I would have picked someone like her.

Someone pretty and smart and fascinating.

“I do,” she said softly.

“I’ve read that series before. The main character is really something else. How did he…”

Before I realized what was happening, I was going off on a monologue about the protagonist's virtues. When I noticed that I was the only one talking and she was just staring at me, I suddenly closed my mouth. I knew I must be blushing darkly, like a kid seeing his first crush.

Then she gave me a small smile, brightening my day like I’d never felt before. Screw stars—the freckles on her nose were small suns, and when she looked at me with her eyes twinkling in amusement, I felt like I could fight the world for her.

I had fallen for Pauline completely and utterly on the first day we had met…and now she was my wife, and everything felt right with the world.
