He’s got two choices: come clean and be honest with me, or I leave. For the next two days, though, I’ll be the girlfriend he wants me to be, even if it is going to make the inevitable that much harder.
“I’ve never been on a private jet before.”
“Get used to it, sweetheart, it’s ours,” he says as he places a kiss to the back of my neck.
“Can I get you a glass of champagne?” The stewardess directs the question at Bennett as she gives him an obvious once over.
“Two please,” he confirms.
“Of course,” she smiles sweetly at him, she’s still not even glanced at me. She’s back within minutes, practically shoving the glass into my hand with a sour, pursed lip look, while Bennett gets the royal treatment. I might be debating the end of our relationship, but she can fuck right off if she thinks she can come onto him in front of me.
“If there’s anything else you need, just let me know —” another lingering look, “— anything at all.” Is she serious right now? Before I can say anything though, Bennett speaks up.
“Privacy. My fiancée and I don’t want to be disturbed this flight,” I choke on my sip of champagne.Fiancée?He shoots me a decidedly wicked look before he continues. “I’m sure I don’t need to tell you why.” Then he’s pulling me into his arms and stamping his lips over mine. I hear a huff followed by footsteps, then a curtain being pulled rather aggressively. He lifts his head and looks me in the eyes. “Did that do the job, my jealous little kitten?”
“Oh, please,” I splutter. He just grins at me, his perfectly straight white teeth flashing.
“She won’t be on any future flights. Nobody disrespects you, especially not in front of me.”Don’t make this harder for me, Bennett. It’s already going to destroy me to leave him, but when he does things like that? I’m not sure I’ll survive.
“And what do you think you’re doing calling me your fiancée? We’re not engaged,” I whisper at him, not wanting bitch face to overhear.
“Technicality,” he shrugs, “we will be.”Well, shit.“Now, about this mile high club; I think it’s time to initiate you.”
I am well and truly a member of the mile high club, Bennett ensured I screamed loud enough forherto hear. Can’t say I put up too much resistance, and the look on her face when we walked off the plane was worth any embarrassment I may have otherwise been feeling.
The flight was only an hour and a half, but the humidity has changed massively, I felt it the minute I stepped off the plane.
“My hair is going to frizz,” I mumble under my breath as we make our way to the town car at the bottom of the planes stairs.
“You mean this gets curlier?” He laughs as he pulls on one of my locks. I shoot him the stink eye which only makes him laugh harder. “You’re going to look fucking adorable.”
It’s a twenty minute drive to his parents house which is situated on a golf course, it’s a large house considering it’s just two people that live in it. Bennett was getting some final work bits done on the journey, he said he wants the next two days completely off so he gets to spend quality time with me.
“You ready?” he asks as we pull up outside their house. Am I? Am I ready to pretend everything is fine? That my heart isn’t breaking at the thought of everything potentially ending after these two days?
“Yeah, I’m ready.” Maybe if I say it with enough confidence I’ll believe it.
The front door opens as we exit the car and the driver carries the bags up the path.
“There’s my boy,” his mom calls out to us, and I can’t help but laugh at anyone calling Bennett a boy.
“Don’t think I won’t spank you just because we’re staying under my parents roof,” he mutters just before we’re in ear shot of his mom. You’d think he was joking, but I wouldn’t put anything past him.
His mom pulls him into a hug as soon as he reaches her and it brings a lump to my throat, it’s times like this that I really miss my own mom. I wish she was here for me to speak to about Bennett, she’d know what to do.
“Well, let me get a look at you.” She’s released Bennett and has turned to me. “Well, aren’t you just the prettiest little thing.” Some people might be offended by being called little; I’m not one of them. One, it’s true and two, I don’t think anyone could ever be offended by anything this woman says — she is pure sunshine. She and Bennett are like night and day. He must be like his father, that or he’s his own unique brand. Actually that must be it, there can’t be two Bennett’s in the world, we’re not that lucky.
“Thank you, Mrs Miller, it’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Oh, now, none of this Mrs Miller nonsense, you call me Jilly, dear. Come on, your father is out back,” she directs at Bennett as she leads us through the house. It’s a beautiful space, they’ve decorated with lots of creams and pale blues making it all seem very bright and open.
“Your home is beautiful.”
“Well, thank you. I’m very happy with it. Can’t take the credit myself though, got some fancy lady in to do it,” she whispers it as if it’s a secret and we’re surrounded by nosy neighbors. I’m going to like Bennett’s mom.
I was wrong; very, very wrong. There are two Bennett’s; my Bennett and one about thirty years older. If I ever wondered if Bennett wouldstill be attractive when he got older, I don’t need to wonder anymore. He will be. In fact, he’ll still be insanely good looking, I’m quite sure my jaw has dropped and I’m drooling, the two of them together is enough to make my ovaries weep with joy.
“As pleased as I am that you’re still going to be attracted to me in thirty years time, nobody gets that look from you but me,” his arm has slipped around my waist, pulling me into him and his words ghost the shell of my ear.
