I blinked up at him in confusion, then finally became aware of two things: the shower had stopped, and Blaze was standing right above our heads, staring at us in a disapproving way.
Cursing inwardly, I unwrapped my legs from around Jake’s waist and threw my hands to the sides, feeling hopelessly defeated.
“I guess our timing wasn’t the best,” Jake said, hovering over me, still devouring me with his beautiful eyes.
“That’s an understatement,” I replied breathlessly.
“I gotta get you alone, Toni. Soon, or I’ll go crazy. I haven’t had sex for so long and just watching youwalkaround makes me want to fuck you senseless.”
His tone was savage and made my belly tighten in response. Curbing my own desire, I scanned his features in awe. I still couldn’t believe that, like me, he hadn’t slept with anyone since the last time we’d been together.
“When I take you, it’s going to be perfect. Like our first time, remember?”
How could I ever forget when he’d set out to make that night unforgettable. Starting with a perfect dinner and ending with a luxury suite where he schooled me in all the ways a man can pleasure a woman. A shiver ran through me at the memory of his hooded eyes as he’d trailed kisses down to my very core. It had been my first time, and he’d shown me so much.
“I remember,” I whispered. “But right now, I don’t care if it’s perfect. We can go outside. My Camaro would do. It wouldn’t be the first time.”
His eyes grew distant for a second as if he were remembering that time I pulled him into the back seat of my car and licked him until he shuddered in pleasure.
“Hmm, tempting. Very tempting, but I’m not sure even the Camaro will be private enough.” He threw a dirty glance in Blaze’s direction, who was still sitting in the same spot, watching us with his perfectly round eyes. “But I promise, first chance we get to ourselves, I’ll make sweet love to you.”
“That’s a promise I’m gonna hold you to,” I said, giving him a crooked grin.
“Fair enough.”
Wincing with regret, he rolled off me and got to his feet. As if on cue, Eric came out of the bathroom, dressed in a fresh T-shirt and a pair of baggy sweats. He veered toward his bedroom but came to a sudden stop. His nostrils flared, then he glowered at us. He seemed on the verge of saying something but thought better of it and disappeared through the door.
“You’d better go in with Rosalina,” Jake said, then picked the book back up. “I’ll be up for a while looking through this.”
I didn’t want to leave. I wanted to stay and sleep with him on the pullout couch, but I didn’t think I would be able to keep off him unless I put a wall between us. Besides, I needed to rest for tomorrow’s trance.
Dragging my feet, I walked away. Jake watched me go, biting his lower lip and scanning me from head to toe, his gaze lingering on my ass for a long time. But, by the time I reached the door and turned the handle, he had focused his entire attention on the book, regaining the same feverish air as he read.
Chapter 31
When I woke up thenext morning to the sound of chirping birds and wind rustling through the treetops, I stretched lazily, giving Rosalina a sideways glance. She was still asleep, her tanned face relaxed, her black hair spread over the pillow. She looked peaceful and innocent, nothing like the rifle-toting badass she’d turned into.
