“You’re readingThe Body?”

“Read it already on my Kindle. I wanted a hard copy to keep.”

“You liked it?”

He sipped the water, avoiding my eyes. “I did.”

“Then what’s the matter?”

“I don’t know. I feel like I missed out on a lot as a kid.”

My heart ached for him, and I didn’t know what to say.

He shrugged. “But I can’t complain. I have a good life, and I don’t need for much.”

“That’s true,” I said.

There was an awkward silence, and I wasn’t sure if he wanted to talk more or be alone. I opted for the second to be on the safe side.

“I’m gonna head in for the night. Do you need anything before I go?”

“No, I’m fine. Thank you.”

I closed his door and headed to my room. No matter how much I tried to push Lucas from my mind, I couldn’t stop thinking about him. The Matchmaker in me wanted to help, but I wasn’t sure how.

He asked me for a dare, but all I did was make fun of his routine. I should’ve given him a real dare.

And that’s when the idea hit me.

I jumped off my bed and grabbed my mother’s shoebox full of old mixtapes that she had made for me. I dumped them out and searched for the perfect one to play in the background while I wrote out my whim of inspiration. If this worked the way I believed it could, Lucas’s world was about to flip upside down.
