They barely made it inside the room. The elevator had been an exercise in self-control, but the minute Heath hit the key card

against the lock and the door opened, they lunged at each other.

She forgot about being icy cold or that their clothes were wet, at least until she struggled to get his soaked shirt off him.

It’d suctioned itself to his skin. He had to help, but that might’ve also been because the sight of him made her mouth dry.

They laughed breathlessly when he had the same trouble with her shirt, but only until his hands slid around her waist and

pulled the hem of her T-shirt out of her jeans. Her hunger and need made her quiver, and intensified as he wrangled her out

of the rest of her clothes and gave a rough, heartfelt groan at the sight of her. Until that moment, his eyes had been soft,

making her all... melty. It was the only word she could think of. But now that she was completely bared to him, his gaze

turned pure fire and heat and erotic desire.

And she wanted everything that look promised.

“I don’t know exactly what you’re thinking,” he murmured, voice low and raspy. “But I encourage you to act on those thoughts.”

She laughed, pressing her body into his.

“Shower or bed?” he asked, enveloping her in his arms as his mouth nibbled its way along her jaw to her ear, his teeth scraping

against her lobe, causing a full-body shiver.

“Bed’s closer—” She broke off with a startled laugh when he scooped her up and tossed her to the mattress, giving her another

thrill as he kneeled at her feet, pausing to take her in, eyes hot, his body revealing exactly how arousing he found her.

Then he slowly climbed up her body, stopping to worship every inch as he went. Breathless, and wanting her own turn, she shoved

him off so she could have the top, enjoying wrenching rough groan after groan from him while she repeated the favor, taking

her mouth on a tour over his every inch. She’d had no idea how turned on she’d get by taking the wheel. Every pleasured inhale

and gasp he made was the most sensual, erotic thing she’d ever felt, and she heard herself laugh in wonder.

“Drunk on the power of driving me out of my mind?”

“ Very much.”

His laugh sounded breathless as it reverberated from his chest and into hers. He had a hand buried in her hair, and just when

she could feel him start to lose control, he rolled, tucking her beneath him once more, pushing the weight of his body into

hers. “My turn again,” he murmured against her skin, working his way down her body.

And, oh, that mouth. Those hands. Slow and methodic.

Hitting every part of her, making her squirm and pant and beg as he continued his lazy exploration.

And when he finally took mercy on her and shoved her off the edge into release, she lost all sense of time and place.

When she managed to open her eyes, she found him watching her, pleasure mixed with something else.

Need , she thought, and kissed him again, wrapping her arms and legs around him, wanting him buried deep—

“Lex.” He lifted his head, his forearms braced on either side of her face, his fingers back in her hair, gentling his grip.

“I don’t have anything with me...”

A condom, he meant, shocked she’d not thought of it first. “I’m... It’s been a while,” she admitted. “I’m clear, and on

the pill.”

He nodded, running the tip of his nose along her jaw. “Same.” He let out a low laugh against her skin. “With the exception

of being on the pill, that is.” He met her gaze. “You still want this?”

She fisted her hands in his silky hair. “Yes. Now.”

“Your wish is my command,” he said politely, and then proceeded to take her apart and put her back together again— not politely—and she loved every second of it.

The next morning, Heath studied Lexi over breakfast in the hotel café. She hadn’t said much since they’d stirred before dawn

and devoured each other, again—unless he counted the sweet, sexy, breathless “oh please...” and “don’t stop...” She’d

had definite ideas about where she’d wanted his mouth, so he’d let her lead him to all her favorite places. Worked out well,

since they were all his favorite places too.

After the guided tour, she’d pouted. “We’re up too early.”

“I’d feel more guilty about that if you hadn’t enjoyed yourself.” He paused. Grinned. “Twice.”

“Counting is considered rude.” She paused. “And it was thrice.”

He laughed. “ Thrice .”

Now she stole the blueberry muffin from his plate, had a taste, then offered it back to him. Instead of taking it, he leaned forward and took a bite, nipping one of her fingers in the process.

Her stomach did flips, which he knew because she pressed a hand to it and squirmed a little.

But then she went back to being quiet. Too quiet, and he set down his fork. “What’s wrong?”

She shrugged, but the look in her eyes belied the casual body language.

“Lex, talk to me.”

“There’s nothing to talk about. We... did some biology together.” She paused. “And it was nice. So thank you. For the use

of your penis. It was very... helpful.”

He choked on a bite of his omelet. “ Helpful ,” he repeated slowly.

“Yes. Yesterday was a rough day. Stressful. And it got to me. So again, thank you.”

“Okay, no.” He shook his head. “I call bullshit. It was more than a stress reliever. It was...” Soul shatteringly amazing.

He shook his head. “Biology?”

“Well, technically...” She pushed her scrambled eggs around her plate. “Biology, with a splash of chemistry.”

“Flag on the play. I need to take you back upstairs for a replay.”

She shook her head. “That would be a bigger mistake.”

He set down his fork. “What’s really going on here? Because less than a half hour ago, I had my mouth on your—”

“I remember!” She let out a breath. “And fine, it was so much better than nice. Okay? Is that what you needed to hear? That

it was the best sex I’ve ever had? Because it was, Heath. But what happened last night was a one-off. It was... Vegas.

As in what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.”

He was the best she’d ever had? He almost grinned at the ego boost, but the look on her face, the one that said she was on the verge of tears, is what sent

him reeling. He wouldn’t push her. Not here. Not anywhere. He’d told her the choice was hers, always, and he’d meant it. It

wasn’t his place to decide what came next between them. “Okay.”

She nodded, not meeting his gaze. “Okay.”

They finished their breakfast in silence. Before getting on the freeway, he filled them up with gas and slid behind the wheel.

Lexi had headphones on and didn’t so much as glance his way.

Back to the starting gate, then. Good to know where they stood.

An hour into the drive, Ashley called Heath. He answered on Bluetooth.

“Hey!” she said, all bubbly happy. “How did it go?”

“We dropped off the check.”

She sighed. “Put me on speaker, please. My sister doesn’t usually use all that many more words than you, but I am eternally

optimistic, so...”

He stabbed the speaker button.

Lexi gave him a curious look.

“It’s Ash.”

“Hey!” her sister said enthusiastically. “How are you doing? Are you having fun? What’s going on?”

Lexi repeated his words. “We dropped off the check.”

Heath couldn’t help but smile, and it was possible, maybe, that she almost smiled back.

“Well, duh,” Ashley said, sounding annoyed now. “Suzie called me, she was so thrilled to see you. So... what have you two

been doing since then?”

Well, certainly not each other...

Except, oh right, they had done each other, spectacularly, and last night would live in his mind rent free as one of the best nights of his entire life

too. And also morning, up until breakfast, anyway.
