The call ended.

He laid the phone down.

Trinity slid an envelope across the table, then stood from the booth. “That’s a token of his appreciation. He realizes you’re a bookseller, with a business to run, so this is some compensation for your time.”

He wanted to say no, but knew that he shouldn’t.

Forgive and forget.

“Thank you. Would you like to eat with me?”

“I have a plane to catch. But not to worry, Mr. Malone. Something tells me you and I are going to see each other again.”

He watched as she threaded her way through the crowded tables and left.

She was right.

Something told him the same thing.
