CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR

KLAUSE

T here is no room for fear here.

The words are carved into an arch that leads to the back of the Black Castle. I stop only long enough to read it and roll my eyes.

I want to laugh at how much those words haunt me. They remind me of my childhood and despite all the fond memories of my mother, those words are not one of them.

Unbeknownst to my mother, the words would haunt her.

She spoke them to herself. The noisy onlooker caught the words right off her lips by chance.

They all echo them like it symbolizes some type of heroic act.

Little did they know, my mother had no trepidation about what awaited her in the underworld.

Her descent was more than willing, she chose to marry my father and follow him there.

I doubt she would have ever spoken the words if she knew the way they would live on for as long as her. On that note, I should definitely pay her a visit. I’m certain my visit to Puerto Quinn will make its way back to her in the underworld. She’ll not forgive me lightly for not stopping on my way .

I give the castle one last glance. I spot a red head pop from the edge of the forest. The young woman captures my notice instantly.

It’s not her superficial beauty that attracts my attention.

My eyes are looking beyond that to her inner core.

I cannot see it in the literal form of the word, but I can sense it.

Like two siblings feeling kinship despite distance.

She makes her way towards the building and I can’t help but watch in fascination. She isn’t alone for long. One of the Oscuro brothers meets her halfway and pulls her into his arms. I believe his name is Jesse, the second oldest. They share a tender kiss.

I look back at the quote on the arch and laugh to myself. There is not one, but two. What a funny play by the Fates. I wonder if the Oscuro brothers know they have two of my descendants in their home. I presume that’s a negative. It’s uncertain whether the two girls are aware of it themselves.

This is yet another reason I should pay my mother a visit. She would be delighted to know this bit of information. After all, we are all family.
