He didn’t.
Both of them slept in and rested deeply. Providing the security and comfort for them to lower their guard and do that filled me with pride.
I called the diner while they were still asleep.
That was the first step. After asking for Margo, I got her gruff voice on the line.
“Do you think she’ll be mad at me if I quit on her behalf?”
“No. Be her damn Prince Charming and give her a rest for once in her life. I don’t know all of her story, but I could guess a fair bit. That poor girl has been on her own and struggling to survive for too long. Take care of her. Spoil her and Oscar.”
I smiled.
Having her here and not stressing about going to that diner would keep her safe.
“And if she is still so stubborn and independent as to defy that, I’ll tell the managers not to hire her back.”
I appreciated her help and planned to send her a hefty thank-you gift.
Oscar woke up as I finished talking with Margo, and I gave him all my attention. We got breakfast together, and I showed him more of the house. He seemed to take a liking to Damon, which surprised me, and he promised that he and Lucy would show him around more, taking him to the gym and indoor pool too.
Willow woke up and wasn’t overly worried that my brother was with Damon and Lucy. But she was still nervous about what she’d told me.
“What if you can’t find him?” she asked. “And then other officials know that someone is looking for him and they tip him off and?—”
I silenced her with a kiss. “We will find him. And you can start helping the search for him now. Unless that would bother you.”
“No!” She shook her head and got dressed, ready to leave that apartment within minutes.
“I’ll have you set up in one of the rooms on the main floor. As much as I want to be present with you every step of the way, I need to help my brothers handle more of the Romanos.”
“Romanos? Is that another Mafia family?”
“For now.” I didn’t hold back on the details when I gave her a summary of how we were launching an attack to end them. The elevator ride downstairs wasn’t long, but I talked the whole way, sharing how the Romanos had tried to end us, how they were escalating, and how a total war against them was overdue.
“Wait. So you and your brothers are going after this big family and you still want to take on finding this cop?”
I nodded. “I will do anything for you,” I promised before kissing her deeply.
“Andthatis how we’ll have another heir before long,” Sloane said with a teasing tone as she passed us by in the hallway.
“Heir?” Willow raised her brows.
I shushed Sloane as I brought Willow into the room. Sloane took Isabella from Joann, who’d been playing with her. Lucy rocked both Roarke and Olivia, and Grandmother took Aurora from Katerina, who was seated at the table with a laptop.
“Willow, this is my grandmother, Anastasia.”
Willow was polite in her greeting, and I was proud when Grandmother didn’t overdo it, fawning over her. “But you two arenotmarried, correct?”
I groaned.
Willow hung her head.
“Saul!” Sloane scolded.
“Oh, fuck.” I chuckled, tipping Willow’s chin up. “That groan is because my grandmother thinks she can borrow the spirit of being a bridezilla.”
“That’s true,” Sloane said.
