“I’m still here,” he agreed. Patting the cushion, he beckoned me to come sit with him. I watched him warily, intimidated by the fact that he wasn’t wearing a shirt again. I was starting to think that with sex out of the way, he’d be out of my system. The wait was over. We’d done it. It could be scratched off the list.
As I sat next to him and immediately felt his body heat radiating toward me, the exciting thrill and suspense of being near him started all over again.
He so wasn’t out of my system.
This close to him and feeling the burn of his intense gaze, I was hoping he could beinme again.
“I assumed you would’ve left already.”
He shook his head, his stare locked on me like I was the most important thing in the world.
“You don’t need to go to work, or anything like that?”
“Not yet. I handled a couple of calls while you were gone and that’s enough for now.”
I nodded, trying to puzzle out just who he was. “And what is your job?”
“I work in the consultation and security fields.” He stated it blandly, like it’d be a bore to talk about his career. What he’d said was so open-ended and vague that I wasn’t sure how to interpret it.
Before an awkward silence could settle between us, I cleared my throat and tried to think of what to say, what to ask him. Being curious about him could invite him to assume that I wanted something more than one night of hot sex. And I was on the fence about how long he could be in my life at all.
“I called Margo,” I said just to have something to share.
“Is she okay?”
Well, that was kind of sweet, that he’d ask about her. “Yes. She is. No one at the diner was injured. Not shot, at least. No employees and no customers.”
Only you.
He furrowed his brow a bit but nodded. “That’s good news.”
The slow way he’d said it made me wonder if he really thought that.
I added more, about the place being opened tomorrow and that I could go back to work again after the random act of violence.
“So you’ll be able to see me there. Again. Like usual.”
He smiled that secret little grin as he gave me a lazy, heated once-over. “I’m seeing you right now. Here.”
Oh, boy. That smoldering stare was getting to me. It wasn’t fair that a mere look from him could get me so aroused. But as I recalled him gazing at me like this last night, when he’d entered me so expertly to push me toward an orgasm, I believed the magic of it. He wasthatsexy, thathot, andthatgood at reading me and knowing he was affecting me in this way.
Hell, I couldn’t try to hide it if I wanted. I was breathing faster, glancing at his lips or his crotch. My pussy was wet. And I bet my nipples were hard and beaded already, poking at my shirt through my bra.
“But this isn’t our usual.”
He laughed once. “I thought you were trying to insist that the chicken BLT was my ‘usual’.”
I rolled my eyes and smiled. I still couldn’t believe he’d put up with a meal he hadn’t wanted just to see me again.
“What if…” He reached out his hand to place it on my thigh, gripping it slightly to tug me toward him. “What would you think if I told you that I wanted to see more of you?”
My pulse sped up as he urged me to face him.
“What if I wanted to seeallof you, Willow? Right now.”
I gulped, so breathless that I was almost delirious with lust.
“I thought…” I held in a whimper of need as he slid his hand higher up my thigh, sliding his fingers under the skirt I’d put on. “I thought you said I shouldn’t worry or get stuck on the what-ifs.”
