Chapter 31
Nadine
“I swear, I spent two days trying to find my way out of that frat house, and every time I turned a damn corner, it’s like a new wing of the building opened up,” Jenna says, shot glass in hand.
“Fuck, frat boys were the worst.”
“Says you! They treated me damn good, like the queen that I am.”
I take a large gulp of red wine. “I lost my virginity to a frat boy, and in truth, he was a good guy, but I came out of that experience wondering why any woman would ever like sex.”
“Dang, I lost mine during prom—and I had done my research! That little shit didn’t know what hit him when I told him what he was going to do and for how long.”
We burst into laughter, my wine sloshing onto the pristine white couch.
“Holy shit!”
Jenna grabs my wrist and prevents me from getting up. “It’s fine. Do you really think InStryde’s gonna care if you fuck up the couch?”
“I guess not.”
“So, what took you so long?” Jenna asks.
“So long?”
“To earn your off-white wedding dress.”
“My virginity? I was twenty, that’s not so long.”
“Grrrrl, me and my friends were all about that senior year of high school.”
I look down, feeling my cheeks redden. “Yeah, I guess I was too.”
“Wait, you was about that, but you never managed to seal the deal? When I checked your record, you went to a public high school, how on earth would you have any trouble?”
“I had this idea in my head that I was going to lose it with the perfect person, in the most perfect way. It just didn’t happen.”
“You couldn’t get up the courage to ask?”
“No, he told me to go away.”
“Excuse me?”
“When I was eighteen, I was staying over at Allison’s house, and I snuck into her older brother’s room.”
“Tom? The one you married when you were a kid?”
“That’s the one. Damn, your memory is good.”
“Well, tell me what happened?”
“I asked him to take my virginity, and when he told me to go away, I took off my nightgown. What happened thereafter is humiliating. It’s why I lost touch with Allison. I was just too embarrassed.”
Jenna’s face contorts in confusion. “Uh-huh.”
“Tom and I are supposed to meet up for coffee. It will be the first time I’ve see him in years.”
“That’s quite a story.”
