I watch over Nadine as she rests, disallowing myself sleep no matter how loudly it calls, as it always does after an especially good romp.
And damn, it was good. No—amazing! Nadine brought me to a level of pleasure that was damn near ethereal. I wish I could hold her, falling asleep with her in my arms, but with what’s going on above deck, I need to remain vigilant.
I wiggled my arm out from under Nadine, trying my best not to wake her, and climb from the bed. I pull on my boxer briefs and put my ear to the door. Hearing nothing, I opened it a crack to see Johnson, gun in hand, seated on the steps.
Thankfully, he doesn’t see me, and I close the door, barricading it with a chair and a desk, and take a seat.
I grind my palms into my eyes but refuse to give in and let my guard down. Johnson is clearly unstable, and I have a feeling that perhaps what he’s doing has something to do with Borlon Aleon. Johnson is the reason I’m attending the gala, and apparently, Borlon is suspected of drug trafficking and human rights violations. Something I hadn’t really figured Johnson would be into. But then again, Johnson’s always interested in new ways of making money.
Disgusting.
I wish I was holding Nadine, who looks like an angel lying on her side, leg hiked up, hair strewn across the pillow, but perhaps it’s best I keep my distance.
To Nadine, I’m purely a tool. Someone she can practice her lust on before moving on to Tom. She has no idea that I’ve developed feelings for her, and it’s best I keep it that way.
Still, my heart aches, which is foreign to me. Once I get back home, I can entertain a different woman each night for two months straight with just the entries in my Little Black Book. Why, after sealing the deal with Nadine, am I still even thinking about her? Let alone jealous that she’s about to fuck some idiot named Tom that has some rather nice tattoos but poor taste in women?
It’s shamefully of me to insult a man who, for all I know, has good intentions, but he had his chance. It shouldn’t have taken him so long to come around.
Just like it shouldn’t have taken you so long to come around.
