“Listen, about earlier …” Her features sober. “I was scared, Jason. I admitted to myself that I loved you well before today. But hearing you say it as I was trying to wrap my brain around the fact that I had a sudden urge to have your babies?—”
“Whoa, back up. Don’t talk about this shit unless you can follow through.”
She giggles. “I need to say this shit, but you’re in a hospital bed. Not my fault you can’t fly a plane.”
“Too soon.”
She kisses me again. “I love you, Jason Brewer. With my whole heart. And I told Tate tonight that he could keep his money because you’re going to lose the bet.”
“I am?”
“You are. You’re not staying married for six months.” A slow smile splits her cheeks. “I’m thinking since you’re old, we probably have a good forty, fifty years left in us.”
I pull her down with my good arm, ignoring the searing pain the movement causes in my other arm. Then I capture her mouth with mine.
“I love you, my beautiful wife,” I whisper against her lips.
“I do have one request.”
“I’ll give you whatever you want.”
She smiles at the memory. “Will you give me a baby?”
“Shut the door, and you can climb on my dick right now. Fuck.”
Her giggles are music to my ears.
“I’m not kidding,” I say. “Or leave the door open. I don’t care.”
“Stop it,” she says, laughing. “You can’t be this ornery when you’re getting ready to be rolled into X-ray.”
“New arrangement. Me, you, two babies, Mimi, and the rest of our lives. Deal?”
“Deal.”
Chapter 30
Chloe
“He is one grumpy boy,” Rory says, descending the stairs. “I don’t know how you put up with him, Chloe. But thank God you do.”
“It’s not as bad as it seems.”
She hums. “Do you need anything before I go? I’m going to swing by Renn’s and get some baby Arlo snuggles.”
And, no doubt, she’ll congratulate Renn on securing the bid for the Royals because Jason relented. I knew he would.
“I think we’re good here. Jason goes for a checkup tomorrow and I’m hoping they give him a little more freedom with his arm. If not, he and I might fight.”
“Who? You and the doctor?”
I snort. “Me and your son. I keep catching him trying to use it and he won’t listen.”
“He didn’t get that from me.” She pulls me into a warm, maternal hug. “I’m going to see if Mimi’s home and tell her goodbye.”
“I think she’s at Samuel’s.”
Rory points a perfectly manicured finger toward me. “That woman has it figured out. I wish I had half her game.”
