I nearly laughed because my mate was a flight risk when I left her alone. There was no way in hell I was doing that the night before our Mating Ceremony. Plus, our dad always preached listening to our mates over a tradition. If Melanie had felt strongly about it, I’d have left.
Dad harbored some guilt to this day in my opinion over listening to my aunts and Cassandra about not spending the night with mom before their wedding. Oden growled, “I can’t prove it, but I know Cassandra did it on purpose.” I agreed. Mom wasn’t raised in this realm and didn’t understand the tradition at the time.
Hell, mom still didn’t get it and she loved traditions. If it was brought up, you heard one hell of a rant about it. Oden growled, “Because mate is right and making excellent points.” Some I’d heard from mom over the years, and I fully agreed with them all.
I fell asleep with Melanie in my arms. I woke up to Phil growling in my head. I jumped up asking, “What? What’s happening? Don’t tell me there are rogues on the day of my Mating Ceremony.” Phil growled, “I am awake because my mate set an alarm to make sure your mate is in bed. Do you know who is not in bed?”
I felt Melanie’s side of the bed which was cold. I replied to my cousin, “Both our mates.” Phil growled, “Exactly. My mate is determined to bring yours back. Keep my Luna bestie in your bed because I want to sleep like a normal partial wolf/Hackura. I’m not asking for much here.”
I replied, “I’ll do my best.” Phil grumbled, “The massage and relaxing day is set up for the bridal party. If I have to get up again because your mate can’t sleep, I’m joining the girls for a massage myself. Gage’s mate didn’t set an alarm. The bastard is sleeping like a normal person.” I laughed, “You can join the women if you need a massage, Phil.” I checked my phone.
Egres:Who is the additional Hackura Guard on Melanie?
Me:There isn’t one, though I’m not opposed to having another. It’s just a curious cousin of mine.
Egres:I see.
I texted Gabe to see where he was.
Me:Where are you?
Gabe:I’m in the Hackura realm. Why? Do you need me there? I’m planning to be there for your ceremony.
Me:No, just checking.
Gabe:Why?
Me:I think you know since I’m asking.
Gabe:Any clues?
Me:I’ll talk to H.
Gabe:So, you know.
Me:I know a lot of things, cousin.
Gabe:For fuck’s sake Alexander.
Me:See you later, cousin.
Gabe:Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So, Melanie was right. It was Hastein and Kingsley. Interesting. Oden said, “We knew that.” We definitely thoughtso, but this was absolute confirmation. I knew Hastein wouldn’t care that Kingsley wasn’t a Hackura.
As a people the Hackura were very accepting, and I loved that about them. Kingsley would face the normal adversity that women in power face. Such as jealousy of some, but I knew they would accept Kingsley. The Hackura would love their future Queen as a whole. Not caring about her supernatural background. Whatever it was.
My door opened and Melanie was shoved inside. Oden demanded, “CATCH MATE!” Like I was going to let Melanie fall. I teased her about getting up before laying back down with her and promptly fell asleep.
I came to hearing someone typing. Very quietly typing. I cracked my eyes open a slit and nearly fell off the bed but remained composed. Melanie was setting Kingsley up with an alias as an assistant to a Vampire in Missouri’s Kingdom. That had me believing the Vampire was in the Resistance for it to all work out that quickly.
I saw the alias was going to be Karlee Brand. I might have to keep an eye on what Karlee Brand was up to. I was certain Hastein would be too since my mate did not mention giving him that name. Oden snorted, “Loophole loving Fairy.” I teased, “You bet your furry ass I am.”
Melanie had even set up a place for Kingsly. Did the person who ran the Resistance do anything anymore? Or did they just rely on Melanie? Lazy ass motherfuckers. They needed to take some damn responsibility. I almost followed Melanie when she got up.
Instead, I listened to where she was going. I went out onto to the steps and saw her in the kitchen. I walked back to my room and called Drake McAlister. My father in law answered, “Hello, Alexander. Is Melanie ok?”
I replied, “Good morning, Drake. I thought you might want to let Sam know that Melanie is cooking in the kitchen.” Drake took a deep breath, “I’ll tell Sam that. Thanks, Alexander.” I laughed, “No problem.” I popped back into our room and decided to get some more sleep.
