Page 132 of Take My Name
“He sent me a picture of a very handsome older gentleman in a three-piece suit lookin’ fine as hell.” She pinches her lips as if she doesn’t want to say her next words. “And I replied, smash.”
Everyone bursts out laughing, and I shake my head.
She sighs. “Yeah, he blocked me after that.”
“Well, I can confidently say my relationship is goin’ much better than that.”
“So y’all are back together?” Bellamy asks eagerly.
“Technically, yes. But she needs to break it off with her fiancé when he arrives in a couple days.”
“That’s not weird or anythin’.” Posey grimaces. “But she’s movin’ back here?”
“We haven’t discussed all the specific details but yeah. She needs to pack up her things and get ’em shipped here. I already have an office she can use, so she’ll be able to work while she waits for the rest of her stuff.”
“I’m still in shock you won her back over in less than a week,” Bellamy says.
“Are you sayin’ I have no game or what?” I ask, pretending to be offended.
“Pretty much. All I saw you do is sulk and growl at anyone who tried to flirt with you,” she replies.
“You look happier,” Posey says, smiling. “So she better not hurt you a second time or?—”
“She won’t,” I say confidently but hoping I’m right.
We chat for a few more minutes before Colt helps me bring the projector and screen to the back of my truck.
“I’m gonna give you the same speech I give the guests…” he says, closing the tailgate. “The projector cannot withhold your weight, therefore, do not lean on it, put too much pressure on it, or use it as a wall with your body or anyone else’s.”
I laugh at how professional he’s trying to sound, no doubt the same voice he uses on the guests. “So basically you’re tellin’ me not to fuck against it?”
“Correct, so please don’t.” He smirks. “Or there’ll be an added fee to your bill.”
I spend the rest of the afternoon getting things ready. Although we have leftovers from last night’s dinner, I make some finger foods and snacks to eat while we watch the movie. We have to wait until it’s dark so we can see the screen, but it should be easy enough to set up. The projector will sit on top of my truck while I set up the screen on the ground. It has a stand, so I’ll be able to adjust the height as needed.
When Maisie walks in hours later, she looks exhausted. Without speaking, she kicks off her heels, lowers the zipper of her dress, and lets it pool at her feet before climbing on the bed where I was waiting for her.
I open my arms and she snuggles against me.
“Long day?”
“Soooo many people. I’m tapped out on socializin’ for the next month.”
I chuckle, feeling her pain. Leaning over, I kiss the top of her head. “I missed you.”
She peers up at me, smiling. “Missed you too. It was weird havin’ to be so fake.”
My brows crease. “Whaddya mean?”
“Everyone knows I’m engaged to Hayes, so everyone gushed over my ring and asked about weddin’ details.”
“You didn’t tell ’em?”
“No, I didn’t wanna make it a big deal on Aaron and Collins’s special day. It woulda felt wrong to announce that I’m callin’ it off before I tell Hayes in person. Plus, my mother loves being the center of attention. I couldn’t dare take this being her first grandchild away from her.” She rolls her eyes, but I hate that everyone thinks she’s with another man.
“Does this mean instead of sendin’ out Save the Dates we can send out Still Married cards?”
A laugh bubbles out of her.
