“It’s amazing. You just had all this stuff lying around?”
“I’ve been recording behind the scenes on the movies and shows I work on over the last year and then trying to piece it together. You know, to see if I might enjoy doing what my parents did. It’s more a documentary type of film.”
My chest ached, and tears filled my eyes. He sounded so uncertain. “Is that what you want to do?”
He gave me a brief nod. “Yeah, I love to act, but I want to try my hand at directing sometime. I love films, but I’ve debated about starting with local theater companies. I’d really love the challenge. And while there I could learn the skills I need through them, and then work my way up to films if I decide to head in that direction later.”
I loved that he wanted to make his own way in the world. He wasn’t looking to ride the coattails of his parent’s success. Lincoln was going to do it all on his own.
“I think you can do anything you set your mind to.” I linked his arm through mine. “Thank you for doing this.”
“It’s important to you.”
I nodded, but I didn’t look his way. My gaze zeroed in on the Timbo box in the middle of the desk.
“You ready?” he asked.
I nodded and let go of his arm. I made my way to the desk and sat down in the leather seat behind it. Taking a deep breath, I ran my fingers along the top of the box as I let it out. I looked up to see Lincoln fiddling with the camera. “Remember, not my face. Just from the neck down.”
He scowled.
I laughed. “What’s the frown for?”
He shrugged, his cheeks growing darker.
Was he blushing? I raised my eyebrow. “Lincoln.”
“It’s the perfect view of your breasts if I line up the shot like this. And I’m going to sound like a total ass, but I don’t want anyone but me ogling them.”
I looked down. He wasn’t wrong. What was wrong was the way my nipples puckered at hearing his words.
Typically, I filmed at my workbench, and my chest wasn’t the main focal point. Knowing Lincoln had this slightly possessive streak made my core clench.
“And if I told you that I didn’t care that the shot was framed that way?” I wanted to test his boundaries. If he demanded I change my seat or how I was doing this because of his jealousy, that raised a red flag.
He sighed and scrubbed the back of his neck. “I don’t like it, but it’s your show and your body, Harper. Ultimately, it’s your choice.”
A huge grin stretched my lips.
“This isn’t funny,” he said, clearly annoyed with me.
“You’re right. It isn’t funny. And you’re also right that this isn’t the way I want my viewers to see me.” I stood up, and my shirt draped forward enough that my belly wasn’t on full display. Unfortunately, I knew I didn’t have much longer before my viewers would know something was up.
Lincoln’s answering smile warmed my heart. He then turned his attention back to the camera. “I’m ready when you are.”
I nodded. “I don’t have a script, but I’ve been going over the details we discussed earlier in my head and think I know how I want it all to go.”
“Good. I’ll count down. After I say one, I’ll start recording you.”
I gave him a thumbs-up.
Lincoln ended up having to restart four more times. Nerves raced through me, wondering what he thought about my whole set up.
“Harper,” he called out to me. His face peered over the top of the camera. “What’s going on?”
I blew out a breath and twisted my hands. “I’m nervous.”
“Is it because I’m here? I can leave the room.”
