Nerves settle in my stomach as I pull the old phone from the hiding spot in my jeans and check like I was shown that it has enough of a charge to make a call.

It does, and I dial the only number saved.

“Took you long enough. Provide an update.” The voice sounds frustrated on the other end.

“I’m sorry, Father. I wanted to make sure I had the correct information to tell,” I whisper.

“Well…?”

“I have confirmed that Luna lives in a town called Griffin’s Den. She is unmarried and works on a farm. She used to live there, but she has been staying with Noah, who is a lawman for the town.”

“You said she was unmarried!” he yells.

“She is not married.”

“How dare she! Who does she think she is? Do you have any other information?”

“No, that is all,” I say, unsure of what else he wants to know.

“Learn her routine and report back. We’re close. Stay on course. We will save her.”

“Yes…” is all I get out before I’m met by silence on the other end.

Not taking any chances. I turn the phone off and put it back into my pocket.

I will not fail.

This is for her own good.
