Chapter twenty-seven
Xavier
M y Omega's scream echoes like a death knell as I dodge my twin’s bullet with ease, aiming straight for his legs.
The Alpha tumbles to the ground, and I pin his arms and legs down as I squeeze on his gun hand.
I snap his wrist, and the Alpha cries out, glaring and snarling as I meet the hatred in his eyes. “Long time no see, brother …”
He snaps his ugly ass fangs. “Get off me!”
I continue snapping his wrist, and he howls in pain. “No. You tried to kill my Omega and her sweet granny…For that injustice, I am going to make you hurt .”
Finally, his wristbone breaks, and my American twin roars. “Fuck!”
I cackle, leaning in closer to his face, and it’s like looking in a mirror. Well, one of those carnival mirrors that distort reality, making you look uglier than you truly are.
This carnival mirror makes me look like a violent psychopath, one who sharpens his teeth into fangs and who likes to hurt my Omega.
“I should have known you'd show your face here,” I breathe, twisting his arm out of shape. "You just couldn’t resist, could you? Did you think I wouldn't expect your little Pigs to double-cross me?"
Wolf sneers at me, showing his lupine fangs again. Fuck… if only I had my sketchbook; I could sketch this very moment, but my hands are a little preoccupied.
“You’re pathetic,” he growls. “You should have just stayed in England!”
I chuckle. “Why? Are you jealous that I ended up with a good family? While you ended up with an abusive piece of shit?”
Wolf bites at the air. “Yeah, well… at least I don’t have that stupid accent! Chip, chip cheerio, and all that!"
What acid has he been drinking? No one actually talks like that in the United Kingdom or anywhere , for that matter.
“Hey, the American birds love this accent. Fuck you, bastard!"
Wolf’s eyes roll back into his head as the pain gets too much for him, and it looks like he's out of insults.
Finally, I get to my feet, twisting his arms around his back as I tie his wrists together. The binds squeeze on his broken wrist, and he whines like a little bitch.
“Ah, shut up. You’re getting what you deserve.”
Now I drag him up to his own feet. Sirens blare in the distance, and just on time.
Backup has finally arrived.
I will have to thank Dacre’s firehouse buddy, Dane, when I see him next.
“Well, time we handed you over to the police. Your entire operation is about to go down in flames, Wolf.”
I haul him away from the woods. Just then, I find my Omega watching me from behind a tree.
Granny has her arms wrapped around her, and I smile when I see she is safe.
It worked. We managed to take down my brother and his goons and got my Omega’s grandma back in the process.
For the first time in years, the dark cloud clears, and I finally see the sun on the horizon.
Just maybe things will work out for once.
Perhaps I can finally have someone in my life who cares for me just as much as I care for them.
Because Zara is my Omega, and I don’t care who knows it.
I will scream it from the top of my lungs.
***
My brother and his Pigs have finally met their end as they are handcuffed and shoved into the back of police cruisers.
I search for Zara, and when I find her by another police car, I rush forward, scooping her up in my arms.
“Xavier,” she cries, throwing her arms around my neck. I swing her around, breathing in her lavender scent.
We did it. We got her grandma back, and now the Wolf is locked up.
He can’t hurt her again.
“I thought he had almost shot you,” she whispers, running her hand through my hair.
My Alpha purrs. “Nah, you won’t get rid of me that easily, love.”
She squeezes me tighter, burying her nose into my hair this time.
As I place her on the ground, I meet the steel eyes of her grandmother.
This lady truly means business. Even my Alpha shakes a little in her mighty presence.
Nolan and Dacre appear at my side, and now we all meet Zara’s granny.
“It’s so nice to finally meet you, ma'am,” Nolan says, offering her his hand.
But Granny just stares at his outstretched fingers, raising a brow. Nolan looks a little unsure of himself as he turns to me and Dacre for support.
Now Granny takes her time assessing each of us, and I bet she is deciding whether we are good enough for her granddaughter.
I sure hope I pass her assessment.
“That was a pretty reckless move you pulled there, boys,” she says, crossing her arms.
Dacre actually perspires. The old bird is pretty scary.
We just want her approval.
The credit all goes to Xavier,” Nolan says next, throwing me under the bus.
I glare at him. What the fuck?
Now Granny’s shrewd eyes fall on me. “Oh, yes…the rambler... You’re lucky one of them didn’t shoot you in there, flapping your lips like that!"
She points her head at the shed.
I throw my head back and laugh at the clouds. “Yeah, sorry. I just couldn’t help myself. Their names were just too funny."
Granny smiles, but only a little. She’s still pretty unimpressed with me. “And there I was thinking the Wolf was the deranged brother…"
“Yeah, who’d have thought? Maybe we're all wrong. Maybe Xavier was the evil twin all along,” Nolan taunts, smirking at me.
I roll my eyes, getting out a cigarette while they all insult me. I saved the day. As far as I am aware, I’m the hero.
But before I can even light the cigarette, Granny snatches it from my mouth. “No smoking, young man. Not if you expect to be my granddaughter’s Alpha.”
Well, it looks like I just quit smoking for good. Now she holds her hand out, and I sigh, handing her the whole packet.
“You’re not going to make me smoke the whole box, are you?” I ask.
My mum did that back home in England when she found me smoking at age fourteen.
“No," Granny says. "I am going to make you go full cold turkey. So, you'd best stock up on some nicotine patches, Kid.
“Fine,” I say.
We'll head to a drugstore on the way home.
Granny smiles a little wider, and it appears I have her approval.
Now she looks at Nolan and Dacre. “Congratulations, boys. You all passed. You can have my granddaughter."
We all grin, shaking each other’s hands. But before we can even get so much as a step closer to Zara, Granny is in our faces again.
“But if you ever hurt her… I will tear your lungs out straight from your throats.”
And she means it, too.
We all step back a little.
Finally, she hugs Zara, then walks off to a waiting police officer.
Now it’s just the four of us.
I guess we’re officially a pack.
And I look forward to seeing what the future has to bring.
