Page 123 of Sent To A Fantasy World and Now All the Men Want Me: Vol. 1
We reached the top of the hill just as the first lantern lifted into the sky. An orange glow radiated from inside the cream-colored material.
“Kuya found you!” a voice exclaimed from behind me. I barely had time to turn before Kuya pounced on me, not knocking me over, but almost. The huge muscled knight at my side steadied my balance. Kuya grinned. “Are you ready to send your sky lantern to the stars? Be sure to whisper your wishes so it can tell the gods.”
Sawyer crested the hill, a smile breaking across his face. “May we join you?”
“Of course, Your Highness,” Briar said. “It would be an honor.”
“The honor is mine.” Sawyer handed a lantern to Kuya, who instantly tried to bite it. His smile softened as he petted Kuya’s hair.
“Do you want to write a message first?” Briar asked me. “I have a quill if you do.”
“No,” I said, so happy I could burst. “I don’t need to make a wish. I have everything I want right here.”
“As do I.” He caressed my cheek.
Maddox caught me around the waist and pecked kisses down my nape, making me giggle.
“Bring Kuya cake,” the cat boy told his lantern in a loud whisper before waiting for Sawyer to light it for him. His rainbow eyes widened as the lantern floated upward.
The rest of us then lit the candle wicks and released our lanterns into the air. Maddox held me on one side, and Briar was on my other. I felt them touch each other too, their arms behind my back, connecting the three of us.
Something silver caught my eye from the trees on the other side of the hill. Lake stood against one, his face tilted to the sky as he watched the floating lanterns. In the dark, his purple eyes softly glowed.
“I told you he’d return,” Briar whispered in my ear.
“He can stay there.” Maddox lightly huffed. He then nuzzled my neck. “Is it wrong to fight to the death over a muffin?”
“Oh, stop,” I said, then giggled again as he pecked more kisses against my skin.
As the two of them held me, I watched two lanterns gently bump each other and drift apart. When I looked back at the trees, Lake was gone. But somehow, I knew he was still nearby. Still watching the lanterns he thought were so beautiful.
Where would life take me next? I didn’t know. But for once, I was having my own adventures instead of just reading about them. And I couldn’t wait to see where this new life would take me next, with the men I cherished by my side.
The End… For Now
