She grunted and pushed him away.

“That’s what I thought. I’m going to get changed and someone needs to take me to work.”

She stomped away, her full ass swaying in a way that made my mouth water. As soon as she was out of earshot Maddox and I both turned on Jace.

Maddox scowled and shook his head.

“Really, Jace? Good job, asshole.”

“Do you not believe that she already owns you, dickhead? From where I stand, she does. You just dropped to your knees to check on her. Why couldn’t you just answer her?” I finished cleaning up my mess and washed my hands. “I’m going to change and take her to work. I guess I’ll have someone—”

“I’ll do it.” Jace refused to look back at us. “I’ll take her.”

Maddox grabbed a muffin and took a massive bite out of it.

“Well, this all went well.”

CHAPTER 24

Harley

I let out a wild scream when I looked up from sliding my shoe on and came face-to-face with an animal unlike any I’d ever seen before. I stumbled back and landed on my ass while the thing sauntered closer to me. I’d just started to work out that it was a cat when Jace burst into my room, looking around wildly like he expected to find a masked intruder.

He looked from me to the cat and then back to me before throwing his head back and laughing. Fuck him but it was a good laugh. Deep and full, it made my nipples harden despite my anger at him. He scooped the cat up and held it to his chest.

“This is Bubbles.”

I studied the creature.

“Why is Bubbles dressed like…what exactly is she dressed like?”

“Heis dressed like a swamp creature. It’s a long story.” He kissed the cat on the top of its head before putting him down. “We inherited him. He’s got some issues. He doesn’t like new people, or any people, really, so just steer clear of him if you can.”

“He came in here. I thought there was some kind of mutant alien coming at me. Jesus. Warn a girl, would you?” I held my breath as the cat walked over to me. “Jace?”

He just watched in awe as Bubbles circled me and then crawled into my lap and curled into a ball. Instead of helping, he took out his phone and snapped a picture.

“That’s amazing.”

I lightly stroked the cat’s head and felt myself melt as it licked my hand with its sandpaper tongue.

“Aww. He’s sweet. Once you get past the outfit he’s not so bad.”

Maddox came in behind Jace and gawked at me.

“Holy shit.”

I gently picked Bubbles up and held him to my chest as I stood. He nuzzled his strange little face into my chest and purred up a storm. Almost instantly I was in love. I started imagining all of the outfits I could dress him in that weren’t nightmarish.

“I wish you’d look at me like that.” Maddox came closer and gently stroked Bubbles’ back. “Would you like me more if I was hairless and wore costumes?”

I fought a grin.

“Depends. Would I get to pick the costumes?”

Jace growled from the doorway.

“Come on. We need to leave if you’re going to make it to work on time.”
