“What?” I unbuttoned his damp shirt and removed it from his cold body. “Ax isn’t here.”

“I wouldn’t have sent you here alone,” he said. “There wasn’t a car out there. How did you…”

I stared into his uneven pupils. “You might have a concussion.”

The distance in his eyes worried me. How had he found me? What would he do if Chance showed up?

“I’m fine.” He held the side of my face as he dropped his gaze to my lips. “I’m so sorry I left you out here.”

“You don’t remember?”Oh no!How would I explain any of this?

“Remember what?”

Milo

A fogof confusion swirled in my head, but the throbbing ache irritated me more. I remembered crashing the Porsche and then walking in the woods until I came upon the cabin.

What am I missing?

I didn’t recall the circumstances that brought me here, but I couldn’t control the obsession to get to Sable. Now that I was with her, a calming sensation surrounded me.

“You must have hit your head pretty hard.” She washed out my cut and put a bandage over it. “Can I make you some tea?”

“Don’t leave me.” I reached for her hand. “I’m still cold.”

I had stripped naked and covered myself in a blanket that I’d found draped over the sofa before she tended to my injury.

“Let’s get closer to the fire.” She guided me onto the floor and settled in next to me. I opened the blanketfor her to get under and put my arm around her, stealing her body heat.

“I’m not clear on all the details.” I rubbed my temple. “I remember swerving off the road. It was freezing out there and my feet were numb.”

“That must have been awful.”

“I didn’t care.” I leaned against the sofa, bringing her with me. “I just repeated your name so that I had something to guide me through the storm.”

“You’re so lucky you found the cabin.” She rested her head on my shoulder. “You could have gotten lost out there and froze to death.”

“I can’t imagine why I would have taken the Porsche out in this weather or why I would have come here without any guards.” That seemed reckless even for me. “I’m not forgetting if someone is after us, right?”

“Oh, I don’t…” She shrugged. “Not that I know of.”

I thought hard because I probably wouldn’t have shared the details if I were under attack. I didn’t have any cell service here, so if my guys were looking for me, they wouldn’t be able to get to me. I hoped I shared my location with them before I ventured out into the woods during a storm.

Why the fuck would I do that?

“I remember being at the dealership. I had a conversation with Lucas and Ax. I feel like Ax said he couldn’t find you but…” I shook my aching head, trying not to shift my eyes to the side because it made me dizzy.

“Don’t overexert your brain.” She ran her hand along my chest. “We can talk about it later.”

“We were meeting here, right?”Where the hell is here?I had no idea what this place was. It was too basic to be a safehouse. Where were my guards? “You’re right, I need to rest my mind.”

“I don’t think you should fall asleep.”

“I’ve had concussions before.” I stroked her hair. “The hardest part is staying awake.”

“You’re shaking.” She closed the tiny space between us. “What can I do?”
