Page 40 of Sawyer (Sabre Security Daddies #6)
A few days later, Lele sat on the couch in her game room with all her friends gathered around her. She was an official Musketiara with her own crown and everything.
She loved her new home. Mostly, she loved living with her new Daddy. Life had become everything she could have imagined and more.
“Does anyone need anything?” Sawyer called from the door. “This is last call for today, girls. Your Daddies are all coming to get you in about an hour, so Lele can take a nap.”
Ugh! “Daddy! I don’t want to take a nap. Dr. Bones said I was fine.”
“I believe he said all your tests were normal, but you needed to take it easy for a week or two until we’re sure there aren’t any long-term symptoms. Part of taking it easy is having a nap every afternoon.”
“I think you just like being a Daddy hen.”
He barked out a laugh. “Maybe so, but we have a very special evening planned, remember? ”
Like she could forget. That was one of the reasons she didn’t want to take a nap. She had a lot to do before tonight.
“I’m so excited!” Georgia said. “I’ve never been to a disco inferno wedding before. I already bought my outfit. I have a sparkly silver mini-dress and white go-go boots.”
“Me too!” said Breezy. “I’m going in a rainbow colored bell bottom jumpsuit. And I found the cutest disco ball earrings that I love!”
“Hey, not to change the subject,” Rory said. “Lele, I have my Daddy created, and I joined the Darling World. My Daddy and I have a unicorn farm. What else do I need to do?”
“I love that game, Lele!” Winnie said. “Even my Daddy loves it. It’s one of the few video games Daddy will play.”
“Same.” Suzi nodded. “Deke’s not really into building things, but he loves to have the characters do things he thinks up. Last week, his Daddy character took my Little character fishing. Um, has anybody else almost gotten a spanking for something their character did in the game?”
Everyone raised their hand.
“That’s part of the fun of the game,” Lele explained.
“In Daddy’s Little World, you can just be crazy, or you can talk about things or explore things you don’t feel comfortable talking about in real life.
And you would not believe how many people create accounts who don’t have a Daddy or Mommy or Little in real life. It lets them sink into that world.”
“I love all the friends I’ve made,” Georgia said. “I talk to people all over the world who aren’t in the lifestyle at all but just want to learn what it’s about.”
Hearing so many good things about the game she’d created was such a rush. She wanted to tell Georgia about the VR Bucket List Bonanza game she was working on, but it was supposed to be a Christmas gift from Hutch.
Faster than a blink, her Daddy was back, telling everyone it was time to go. She would never admit it to Sawyer, but she really was kind of tired. Of course, the huge yawns she hadn’t been able to hold back probably gave her away.
At the door, she reminded everyone, “Don’t forget to pick up your mo-peds at the bike rental shop if you want to take part in the moped parade.”
She hoped her language didn’t offend Lola Motor-Bunny. After all, being put in the moped category was a bit demeaning. It was just the Daddies got antsy whenever they heard their Little talking about motorcycles. Sheesh.
Once everyone left, Sawyer carried her to their bedroom. She really didn’t mind how much better she felt after a nap. The fentanyl shot Hector had given her had messed up her sleep patterns like crazy.
The problem was she never felt sleepy when she first lay down. Sometimes she spent her entire naptime trying to get to sleep. With everything going on tonight, she figured today would be one of those no-nap days.
Sawyer lifted her to the bed and helped her undress and put on her jammies. Once she was tucked in with Lucky by her side, her Daddy lay down beside her.
“Have I told you this afternoon how much I love you, Half-Pint?”
“Hm, let’s see. It’s three o’clock, so you’ve told me three times. Plus the six times you told me this morning. Have I told you this afternoon I have the best Daddy in the whole world?”
“I think that makes nine for you as well, babygirl. Now go to sleep.”
“But what if I’m not sleepy?”
“Go to sleep anyway.”
“Daddy! You can’t just go to sleep anyway when you aren’t sleepy. Will you hum the song to me?”
“The song? ”
“Uh-huh. The one you always hum. What’s the name of it?”
“Well, let’s see. I guess it’s called Lele’s Lullaby.”
She propped up on her elbows. “Wait. You made up that song?”
He shrugged. “I guess. You needed comforting that day, and I hummed the tune as it came to me.”
“Daddy.” Could her heart get any fuller without bursting? She didn’t see how. “I’ve never had anyone compose a song for me before.”
“Lay back down, Half-Pint. Don’t go telling anybody I compose songs. It will mess with my alpha-Daddy persona.”
She giggled. “Well, can you sing me Lele’s Lullaby?”
“Of course, babygirl. Tonight, you are making me the happiest Daddy in the world. I’ll do anything for you.”
“Does that mean you’ll wear the John Travolta iconic white suit and wig tonight for the wedding?”
He rolled his eyes. “Anything but that.”
She lay quietly for a few minutes. The song wasn’t working. “Daddy?”
“Yes, Half-Pint?” The tone of his voice told her this was her last question.
“I love my lullaby, but will you do the thing?”
“The thing? What thing?”
He asked, but he couldn’t fool her. She heard the smile in his voice. “The thing, Daddy. It helps my heart.”
That earned her a warm, tender smile. His eyes were happy. She was still getting used to that, but she loved it.
“It helps my heart, too, babygirl. It helps mine, too.”
He moved closer and lay his head down on her chest, so his ear was right over her heart. And hummed her lullaby.
