“About 30 minutes, I’ve called the police,” Hannah tells me.
“The police can’t help. I’ll find her,” I say reassuringly.
“They can, she couldn’t have gone far.”
“Trust me, Hannah,” I say in a stern voice.
“What are we going to do?”
“Let me make a few phone calls.”
I bury my face in my palms. This is all my fault and I’m sure Hannah has pieced it together. I might have left the espionage business but it has obviously not left me.
I dial Eli’s number, I hope he picks up the call since we aren’t exactly on good terms.
The phone rings for a while before he picks up.
“Eli. I need your help.”
I watch as pigeons gather at my feet, randomly pecking and flocking around. The sun’s intensity has been really high but I am well prepared. I wear a casual top, shades and a face cap to shield my face from the sun and from whoever might recognize me.
“Holden,” a familiar voice booms in front of me.
“Eli,” I respond as I take in his appearance. He looks like he just come out of the gym. He wore a blue sports top and black shorts, his canvas and long socks were not hard to notice.
“Great to see you again, and I’m sorry about your daughter.”
“Let’s cut to the chase, Eli. Did you bring what I asked for?” I ask as I grab the files from his hand.
“Here’s all the info I have on Ludwig Mikhailov.”
“Thank you, Eli.”
“You’re welcome. I can grant you access to every resource you’ll need.”
“I’m fine. You’ve given me more than enough.”
Eli is about to talk but then I get a call from an unknown number. I hesitate at first but I pick it after I get a gentle nod from Eli.
“Hunter’s Point Naval Shipyard. Come alone and bring the flash drive along, you have eight hours and your time starts now.”
The call ends.
“Looks like you’ve got a location, what do they want?”
“The drive. I need a favor from you.”
“Name it.”
“I need a team at Hunter’s Point Naval Shipyard. And a “copy” of the flash drive.”
I quickly leave and head back home. Hannah paces the living room, her face brims with curiosity as she sees me come in.
“Anything?” she asks.
I glance at Audrey who sat on the other side of the room, they both look really worried.
“I’m going to get her now. I just need to grab some things.”
