W alt was in bed, it being nearly ten o’clock.
I had no idea what was going to happen between Colt and me, but I was eager to find out.
I stood in the doorway, watching Colt. He noticed me standing there, a little smirk forming on his face.
Then, he came close and did that thing you see in movies and read about in books where the guy leans over you, his arm propped up above his head.
He leaned his head toward me a little, and I could see why girls like this.
“I can’t wait any longer.”
“Can’t wait for what?” I had an idea of what he meant. I just find it funny to play with him.
“I want you. All of you, darlin’.” The way he called me darlin’ sounded like music to my ears.
“All of me?”
“Can I take it? Can I take what’s mine?” I bit my lip, growing the suspense, and I knew it was killing him. Playing games with Colt Hogan was my favorite pastime.
“I don’t think I should let it be that easy for you.” Making him work for? Yes.
“What do you want me to do, then?”
“You remember the evening in the kitchen?” He nodded. Of course, he remembers that. How could either of us forget an evening like that? “I want you to beg, just like you said you would.” It had honestly been a big turn-on for me, and I wanted to see it again-right here, right now.
“Beg?” It was more of a playful question coming from him, and I knew he was about to do it.
“Yes. Beg.”
“Okay.” He slowly got down on his knees like he had that evening in the kitchen. He looked up at me, meeting my eyes, and I smiled. He was giving me exactly what I wanted.
“Please, darlin. Let me touch you. I need to feel your warmth. I need to feel your touch. I need to feel our bodies together. I need to hold you close and feel your heartbeat in sync with mine. I need a kiss from you. Can’t you see, darlin’, I need you.
I need to drown in every. Single. Piece.
Of. You.” His hands traced along my body, and it helped the mood.
I wanted him to touch me, and I couldn’t wait any longer.
I was about to give in. “Please, let me. I promise to be gentle.” I grabbed his shirt collar, pulling him up to me.
“I need you, too, but don’t you dare be gentle.”
The last thing I want is gentleness.
I want rough.
I want to be desperate.
He pulled a piece of hair out of my eyes and placed it behind my ear ever so gently, and I was hoping that it was going to be the last gentle thing he did tonight. I let out a breath, and he closed the distance between us, shoving me against the wall. Our lips locked together.
With Colt Hogan kissing me, the world was jut standing still.
I could taste him.
I could feel him.
The kiss deepened quickly, the thought of hiding to keep us hidden only intensifying it all.
My hands found his hair, just like our scene on the porch.
We continued kissing, and I could feel his hands wrapped around my waist. He lifted me and started walking.
When I landed, we were on the couch, Colt on top of me.
My heart was pounding even faster than ever before.
“Darlin’…”
“Cowboy…”
His hands moved down my body, stopping at my hips. I could feel his grip tighten. I looked at him, wondering how we got here…after all this time had passed. He leaned back on his hands, taking me all in. I watched as he licked his lips slightly.
“You good?” I nodded. I was so much more than good. Good didn’t even come close.
I felt amazing.
I felt safe.
I felt wholesome.
Our lips locked again, and I felt like being devoured.
There was so much passion in every kiss.
I never wanted that feeling to go away. I wrapped my legs around his waist. He carried me to the wall again, pressing me firmly against it once more.
His touch felt warm and rough, exploring every inch of my body.
I was starting to get a little worried that we were being too loud and that his dad might hear us. What if he walked in to see this? He would freak.
“We shouldn’t.” My body told a different story. My body said we should.
“Don’t worry, darlin.’ My dad is a heavy sleeper. Just a little longer?” I nodded, knowing I couldn’t stop, and tilted my head back.
He trailed his tongue down from his lips to my neck. He was so close to my sweet spot, and once he hit that, it was game over. I gasped, arching my back a little more. He had found the spot. He remained there, kissing and gently nibbling.
It was better than anything I had ever experienced.
Colt was better than anything I had ever experienced.
“We should be careful.” My words still didn’t match my body language.
“I think being careful is almost the same as being gentle, and you didn’t want that.” He was right. I didn’t want that when we started, and I don’t want that now. I can’t help myself. I need you, darlin.”
I pulled Colt as close to me as I could. Our kisses were more heated, and I knew this wouldn’t be the last one. We were wrapped in each other’s arms, and my only wish was that it never had to end.

It was hard not to sleep in after the night I had, but I knew hearing a mouthful from Walt was never worth it.
I headed out to the barn after I had my cup of coffee.
I loved working with the horses, and that was honestly one of my favorite parts about working here for thesummer, besides the ruggedly handsome six-foot cowboy I admire.
The stalls needed to be cleaned before anything else.
I didn’t want to step in manure while trying to feed and water them, so I knew the horses didn’t want to step in it either.
I hadn’t seen Colt yet, so I figured he was already out in a field somewhere working.
“Daisy?” I heard a faint call of my name but couldn’t make out the voice. “Daisy?” I stepped out of the barn this time. It was Walt.
“Is there something you need me to do? ”
“Actually, your dad needs a little help.”
“Oh, no! Is he okay?”
“Oh, yeah. He’s fine. He just called and said he needs a little help with the cattle today. Part of the fence needs fixing here, and Colt went to check it out. He should be back any minute. I just called him and told him to come back here.”
“Are you going to my dad’s then? Or sending Colt?”
“Actually, I need to stay here and fix that fence. You and Colt both go. It will be faster with more hands.”
“You want me and Colt to go?”
“Is that a problem?”
“No, it’s no problem.”
I was a little surprised that he suggested Colt and I go together, but maybe this could be good.
Oh, who am I kidding? Now, having to hide our relationship from my dad was going to prove a difficult task.
I wasn’t looking forward to that. I hadn’t seen my dad since he stopped by and had supper with us.
“It’ll be good for you to see each other, you know?” I looked up at Walt.
“Yeah. I hope so.”
“Oh, look. There’s Colt now.” I turned and found Colt driving up on the side-by-side.
“Hey, dad. What’s going on?”
“John needs some help with the cattle. I told him I would send the two of you to help. I’d go, but I’m going to stay and fix the fence.
” Walt placed a hand on Colt’s shoulder, and they walked a small way away from me.
I could see them talking, and I wondered what Walt was saying to him.
Was it about me or my dad? Colt came over to me once they had finished, while Walt hopped on the side-by-side and drove out to the cattle.
“Are you ready to go?” I nodded. Maybe this encounter with my dad wouldn’t be as bad as I thought. I could only hope.
