Page 26 of Savage Temptation
“Why so glum?” he asks. “Having regrets?”
“No, it’s just your party. You should have been there.”
“My absence was actually covered for uniquely.”
I arch a brow. “Oh?”
“I did a 3D introduction some weeks ago, just to see how it would look with one of the new interactive components. I had it modified and displayed as a hologram. My absence actually looked planned because of it.”
“That sounds like a stretch.”
“Not if you look at it from an artsy-techie viewpoint. My technology is supposed to make it look like people from around the world can meet in one room, so having me there in hologram made perfect sense.”
“Well, thank you for all that you did. I still can’t believe I got myself into that mess.”
“That makes two of us, but I’m kind of glad you did. How else would I have gotten you into my bed again?”
“If you ask me, a simple conversation would have served you better.”
He shoots me a panty-dropping grin, and my mind travels back to last night.
How can he look so relaxed, so perfectly comfortable and not at all awkward? Perhaps it’s just easier for men to be around people that have seen them naked.
“When do we land?”
“We’re about forty-five minutes out. Two cars will meet us at the airstrip to bring us to our respective places.”
I look at my phone. “Ashley still hasn’t called.”
“And she won’t. I warned her against initiating communication. She’s probably waiting on pins and needles for you to message her.”
“What should I tell her?”
“Anything you’d like.”
“So a detailed log of the sexcapades aboard this plane would be fine?”
“She already knows about the first time, so why not this one, too?”
“You know that she knows?”
“Yes.”
“Are you mad I told her?”
“Not at all. Girls talk to each other.”
“I’m sorry, you’re just really confusing me.”
He stares back without saying a word.
“I’m sitting here freaking out, obsessing over every detail about what just happened between us—because it’s huge, and you’re acting like it’s not a big deal.”
“I just don’t think it’s something to get worked up about.”
“I suppose you would say that because you’ve only done this a thousand times before.”
He wears a thoughtful expression, and if I’m not mistaken, it’s almost pained. I wish I knew what was going through his head, but that would probably only make me sad because while everything that happened is so very special to me, I’m probably just a big freaking notch on his bedpost.
