With all the attention the next Call of Duty game has been getting, Randy and Shelby took my advice and scheduled it for a morning slot.

“An easy win incoming,” Randy declares as he positions himself in front of the TV. “This old house has thin walls. Does she even have enough energy to hold the remote after last night?”

“She will be fine, all refreshed and energized,” I yell back from the kitchen to the smartass. “I dropped her off at the café. She was grabbing a coffee, then heading back to her room.”

“I hope she kicks your ass,” Seth says, grabbing some bandages from under the kitchen sink. Training starts in an hour, and I need Seth to wrap my ribs good and tight.

“Seeing you run out in a jock strap will be hilarious,” Walsh agrees, taking a seat on the couch.

“Good to know my friends support me; I’m so fucking lucky you guys have my back.”

“We have your back, just not your ass,” I reply as Seth and I enter the living room. I stand in the middle of the room, my arms out to the side as Seth wraps my bruised ribs. I clench my teeth and breathe through the pain as I watch Randy log on, headphones covering his ears.

“So, Shelby, I hear congratulations are in order. You tied down the star running back and all-around pretty boy. Wait til all the ladies hear about that…there will be hearts breaking all over campus.”

I kick him gently in the back.

“Yeah, he just hit me.”

“It’s okay, though, Seth is wrapping his ribs before training, so I take comfort in the fact that he is in some pain right now.”

“Well, he hit me first,” he says back into the headset. “No, I’m not passing that onto him,” he says.

“Tell her whatever it is, I’ll take her up on it.”

“Yeah, yeah, she heard you, enough sloppy shit, let’s play,” he says, adjusting his headset.

It’s another close game, but my girl wins this round—yep, my girl —and she now leads two to one.
