Chapter 16

Sloane

Oh. My. God. How the fuck did that just happen? Not only did Loki meet Jack and Jill, but he is out there picking up every goddamn vibrator that I own.Hmm, I wonder if he knows how to use all those toys?I bet he does.

Placing the flashlight on the counter, I open the professionally packed suitcase. I’m not used to the money my sister married into, and this is another example. I don’t remember the last time I had new clothes, and I’ve never had anything designer. I’m almost afraid to touch anything.

After a little digging, I finally pull out a cotton satchel. Assuming this is underwear, I empty its contents into the suitcase and almost laugh. Knowing Preston, he specifically had someone buy these to mess with Loki. The only pajamas, if you want to call them that, are some of the sexiest lingerie I’ve ever seen in my life.

Choosing a set, I slip on the softest black silk I’ve ever felt. The cheeky panties and matching babydoll camisole feel like heaven. Inspecting myself in the mirror, I try really hard to like what I see.

“Do you like to be in control, Mr. Kane?”

“I don’t like it, Red. I require it.”

Jesus, I need to write that line into a book. As soon as the words left his mouth, my center melted. It shouldn’t turn me on as much as it does. I’m fighting for my own control here, but his words have me ready to throw in the towel and say, “Yes, sir.”

“You need to take control, Sloane. Not hand it over to another man that will leave you.”

Knock. Knock

“Red? Did you say something?”

“Ah, no. I was just, um, singing?”

Singing, Sloane? Really?

Sliding the suitcase to the corner of the room, I open the door.

Loki stands in the doorway with his arms raised, hanging onto the frame, and his mouth falls open as he takes in my appearance. While tugging at the collar of his shirt, his eyes rake over my curves.

My body flames from within, and I try desperately not to fidget. The intensity of his gaze has me wanting to fan myself. We stand inches apart, but neither of us speak for what feels like an eternity.

“That’s …” I watch as Loki works to swallow before trying again. “That’s what Preston sent for pajamas?”

Allowing my smile to form ear to ear, I nod.

“Well, at least his text message makes sense now.”

Confused, I peer up at him. “What text message?”

“He sent a message in our group chat,” he grumbles.

“What did it say?” I’m grinning wildly now because I have seen the exchanges that happen between these guys.

“He said, ‘Good luck sleeping tonight. You’re welcome.’”

Leaning in so our bodies almost touch, I mouth, ‘Goodnight, Loki,’ and slip past him. Climbing into the bed, I feel his gaze on me but refrain from checking. Eventually, I hear the bathroom door shut.

As soon as I lie down, my body surrenders to exhaustion.

Gasping for air,I fly out of bed but can’t catch my breath. Turning in circles, I look for something to grab hold of.

“Red? Shit, did I scare you?”
