Internally, I grin. I got Loki to say Dick and Harry.
Chapter 15
Loki
It takes almost an hour to convince Red that the kits were fine in the barn. Once we had the babies settled, she left a trail of crackers—Hansel and Grettel style—for Dick and Harry. If I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn’t have believed it. But, sure enough, they followed behind and have now taken up residency in the barn with their babies.
Turning on the flashlight, I notice her entire body is shivering. “Jesus, Red. Your lips are blue. Let’s get you inside and start the fire.”
“You’re sure they’ll be okay out here?” Her teeth clatter as she talks.
“They’re wild fucking animals, Sloane. They’ll be fine. I promise.”
I can see her fingers do their dance in the moonlight, and they are bright red from the cold.
“Okay, yeah. It’s freaking freezing up here.”
“Once I get the fire going, I’ll bring in the clothes Preston sent. We’ll need to get you dressed in something warmer.”
With a smirk, she teases, “We’ll need to get me dressed? Is that so?”
“Ah, no. I mean …” This goddamn girl flusters me. No one has ever thrown me off my game.
“Well, what is it, Loki? Dressed or undressed?” Sloane teases. “Come on. I really am freezing.” She’s laughing, but I’m thankful it’s so fucking dark because her words went straight to my dick.
Get your shit together, Loki. You have a job to do. She is not an option.
“I wish my mind and body would get on the same damn page,” I grumble with my head down as I stomp back to the house.

With Red curledup in front of the fire, I go to work on the fuse box. Even with a flashlight, I can barely see the damn thing. Attempting to get a better look, I fold my body to fit into the compact closet so I don’t hear Red approach.
“Hey, Loki?” she calls through a yawn.
Leaning away from the door, I come face to face with her, but all I can see are her lips. I try to focus on her eyes, but her damn mouth keeps drawing me in.
“Yeah?” I finally choke out.Real smooth dipshit.
“You struck out?”
Struck out?I haven’t even hit on her yet.
A naughty grin takes over her face in slow motion. Leaning in, she whispers, “With the fuse box, Loki. You struck out, with the fuse box?” Her Irish eyes dance as she peers behind me into the darkness.
With my back against the doorframe, there isn’t anywhere I can go but farther into her space, so I take advantage of our proximity.
“I never strike out, Red. But it’s too damn dark to fix the fuse tonight,” I whisper, my breath causing her hair to fan across her face, and I take pleasure watching her body shiver in response.
“So, what are we going to do?” Her words come out in a breathy whisper.
“I’m going to grab a few more things from the car, and then we’ll go to bed. The fireplace will keep this place warm enough, but there isn’t anything I can do about the power until morning.” Our bodies are so close I can feel the heat that seeped into her clothing from the fire. But that isn’t what’s setting my body alight.
“I hope you like to snuggle,” she quips.
Do I?I have no fucking idea. I’ve never been with anyone long enough to find out.
“Ah, I usually sleep alone. Why?”
