Page 123 of Rogue's Path
My woman is feeling her inner biker babe. “Very good.” I walk over to her. “But I think I have something that will look even better on you.”
“Oh, really?”
I hold out a folded-over hand to her, flattening it out slowly.
“You got me lip balm.”
“Peach lip balm.”
She takes it from my palm and starts to apply it in the mirror.
I sink to one knee. “But this is what I want you to wear forever.”
Her eyes go wide in the mirror.
“Will you be my old lady?”
“You’re terrible. You know that, right?” She grins at me the entire time.
“So is that a yes?”
“I’ll marry you, but I’m not sure about this old lady thing.”
Peaches is going to love it when I call her my old lady…eventually.
“I love you.”
“That’s the best thing we have in common.” I slide the peach sapphire onto her finger and lean in to seal our engagement with a kiss.
“There’s no time for that, mister.” She puts her hand on my chest, right over my heart, and stares at her ring. “You know my parents are going to come.”
Do they have to? “Of course.”
“And I want to have all your brothers there.”
That’s a given. Like those busybodies would let us get away with not inviting them.
“But I was thinking…we’re pretty close to Vegas.”
Is she saying what I think she’s saying?
“One of those silly little wedding shops would make for a funny story to tell our kids.”
I would think it would be more romantic than funny. “We are not getting a minivan. What do you want? A pearl SUV? A four-door truck? You name it, I’ll get right on it.”
She grins at me. “There’s no time for you to obsess about cars. We need to ride.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
The end…for now.
