Page 49 of Right Where I Belong
Her foot slid higher against his leg.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she said, lifting her drink to her mouth, her tone dripping with innocence.
His eyes travelled the length of her body, slowly and back up again. “You’re dangerous.”
She leaned closer. “And you like it.”
Yes. Yes, he did.
He reached under the table, his fingers brushing against her thigh, shifting the silky fabric away to reach her skin. She gulped. He kept his touch light but deliberate as his thumb stroked her soft skin in a slow, sensual rhythm.
Her glass trembled in her grip. She dropped a napkin on her lap, hiding what he was doing to her from the world.
“Two can play this game, beautiful,” he murmured. “I know exactly how to make you squirm. I know this need that is blooming inside you…” His fingers drifted higher. “I know just how to make it unbearable, and I know how to make it better too.”
A shiver tore through her. He took a casual sip of his whiskey, while his hand continued inching up her thigh.
He smirked. “If you play with fire, then you will get burned.”
“Maybe I want to get burned… by you…” She scraped a finger down his jaw.
The fire in her gaze scorched through him. The urge to grab her and drag her away from this restaurant and straight to his bed wreaked havoc inside him.
Before he could act on it, however, a shift in the room caught his eye. He glanced toward the entrance, and his stomach dropped.
Oh, for the love of?—
His back straightened, and his hand left Sabrina’s thigh. “Well… shit.”
Sabrina frowned. “What happened?”
He tipped his chin toward the approaching woman. “The woman in the white pantsuit heading straight for us… That’s my mom.”
“Your what?” Her eyes widened as she followed his gaze.
“My mother.” He let out a slow breath.
“How… why?” Confusion was etched on her face. “Was she in Singapore too?”
“No…” He sighed. “I have no idea what she’s doing here. But I intend to find out.”
He stood as soon as his mother reached them.
“There you are!” His mom greeted him, tipping her cheek up.
“Mom…” he said, kissing her cheek. “You didn’t tell me you were coming to Singapore.”
“I was on my way to Bali for a short vacation with my friends,” she said, patting his cheek. “But then I thought I’d make a quick stop and surprise my favorite child.”
Aditya gave a half-laugh. “You only have one child.”
“Exactly!” she replied, deadpan, before her sharp gaze flicked to Sabrina. His mom looked at him, her chin high. “Introduce us.”
Shaking his head, Aditya touched Sabrina’s shoulder. His mother’s eyes narrowed to where his hand rested, and her lips thinned.
“Mom, this is Sabrina Solanki,” he began. To Sabrina, he said, “My mom, Mamta Wahi. She has a flair for the dramatic, and as usual, likes to keep me on my toes.”
“Well, someone has to,” his mom replied, holding a hand out to Sabrina.
