This isn’t good.

The walls of the room closed, and a hive of bees took up residence under my skin the moment I opened the video. The buzzing echoed in my head as my heart stuttered.
Jealousy charged through, spiking my anxiety. Ten times worse than anything I felt when Daddies at the club on Daddy Night touched and came onto my boy. Some kid climbed into Aiden’s lap like he belonged there. The edges of my phone case bit into my palm.

Is there something I need to know?
I’m trying very hard not to jump to conclusions.
Ace
Heading your way.
I’ll explain when I get there.
You have nothing to worry about.
There are no conclusions to jump to.
Dusty
See you soon. Drive safe.
Aiden said I had no reason to worry, but that didn’t stop the insane thoughts dancing around in my head. I read back through our messages. Then read them again.
I tossed the phone on the bed and stormed away, only to turn back toward the phone. I grunted in frustration, shoving my hands through my head, and forced myself to move away. Again.
Hawk hopped from the chair where he’d been curled up, licking my hand and whimpering.
“I’m okay, buddy.”
I wasn’t, though. I couldn’t unsee the guy kissing Aiden. He was my boy. The desire to rip the kid limb from limb barreled into me, knocking me for a loop.
“God, Hawk. I’m a jealous asshole.”
I glanced at my watch. Aiden said he was on the way. I could keep it together until he arrived.
Maybe.
My teeth ground together, jaw popping as the upper teeth gritted against the lower ones. Before the accident, hooking up with a guy Aiden’s age was the norm. Maybe I needed to look for a boy a bit older. Aiden couldn’t even drink. He’d barely gotten the chance to live.
The beehive went nuts. Anxiety at letting him go, at finding a different boy, felt worse than watching him get mauled by a cute boy. There were no other boys.
Taking a deep breath, I picked up my phone to watch the video again, reminding myself of Aiden’s words—nothing to worry about and no conclusions to jump to.
I pressed play.
I watched the video through, then started over.
What I thought was the guy climbing into Aiden’s lap and kissing him was a drunk kid falling onto someone.
Backing the video up, I watched it again. This time, I focused on Aiden’s reactions instead of the guy’s actions.
Aiden’s face showed his surprise when the guy fell on him.
Aiden’s hands, when he pulled them from under the guy, pushed the guy away instead of taking advantage of the offer clearly on the table and pulling the guy close.
Aiden stood, dumping the guy on the floor. Not something you’d do if you wanted to get laid.
Aiden helped the guy up, but avoided his mouth when the guy tried kissing him again.
Before the video ended, it showed Aiden yelling at someone, but the music playing at the party was too loud for me to hear what he said .
I sat down on the sofa in the sitting area. Hawk jumped up next to me, his head landing in my lap. “Looks like I’m gonna owe Aiden an apology when he gets here, buddy.”
Propping my feet up on the coffee table, I texted Will back, having forgotten to do so in my panic.
Sasha Storm
Looks like they’re in the dorms. At least they’re not out at a fraternity house where they’d have to drive.
Will Grigor
I didn’t take you for an optimist.
Sasha Storm
I have my moments.
Will Grigor
Sasha Storm
I didn’t realize you were an asshole.
Will Grigor
I have my moments.
Was that flirting?
Will Grigor
Sorry. That was inappropriate.
I’m out with my brother, and I’m a flirt when I’ve been drinking.
It was flirting. Holy shit. My gaydar failed me there. I would’ve sworn Will was straight.
Sasha Storm
No worries. Where are you guys?
Will Grigor
Ewen’s club.
Sasha Storm
You two have a ride?
Will Grigor
Ewen’s working.
Sasha Storm
I didn’t know you were a member.
Will Grigor
I am. Is that a problem?
Sasha Storm
No. You just didn’t mention it when we talked about it before.
Will Grigor
I’m a member because my brother gave me a membership. I’m queer, but not kinky.
Sasha Storm
I won’t hold that against you. Tell Ewen and Ollie I said hi. You guys have a good holiday.
“Looks like Aiden and I need to be extra careful, Hawk.”
He sighed, his eyebrows bouncing as he looked up at me.
I lay my head back on the sofa and let my eyes close while I waited for Aiden.
A nap would do me good. I didn’t know what Aiden meant by ‘heading your way.’ Even if he wasn’t in his car when he messaged, he should be here soon unless something went sideways with the team.
Since I needed to apologize, which rubbed me raw, I figured I’d do it Daddy style—make the boy come so many times he begged me to stop and didn’t remember his Daddy’s jealous moment, so a nap would rejuvenate me before he got here .
Buzzing tickled my consciousness. My eyes blinked open slowly, the room shrouded in darkness. The noise, somewhat muffled, bugged me enough that I groaned, but then it stopped, and I sighed, happy to let darkness claim me again. That floaty feeling washed over me and I drifted…
Aiden!
I sat up. My feet dropped to the floor, then I shot from the couch as if launched from a cannon. Spinning, I looked around, but Aiden wasn’t here. My eyes flew around the tables and floor looking for my phone. I’d been texting Will before dozing off.
“Hawk, find my phone.”
He jumped from the sofa, and there, between the cushions and the back of the couch, the tiniest corner of my phone peeked out. Snatching it up, I swiped open the screen. Dozens of missed calls and texts filled the screen.
Before I could open the app, my phone rang.
My brow furrowed.
What the fuck is he calling for?
“Mikal? It’s late…” I started, but Mikal interrupted.
“Thank God you answered,” Mikal gasped, his voice full of distress. His normally calm, steady rasp was anything but.
“What’s wrong, Mikal?” I asked.
“Aiden…”
Did he mean my Aiden?
“Aiden? Mercer? What about him? ”
“Yes! He’s been in an accident.”
My blood turned to ice as I asked, “Wait… what? I’m confused. How…”
“Aiden… he’s our son, Sasha.”
