Story: Ride With Me
CHAPTER 7
ANDREW
“Are you sure you don’t mind coming to the warehouse with me today?” Dean started the truck and pulled out of the hotel parking lot. “I could pay for an extra day at the hotel, and you could just lounge at the pool. Or explore. I saw a few interesting shops on the downtown strip coming into town.”
“It’s exactly what I need right now, Dean.” I looked at my bank balance on my phone and wanted to cry about the amount. “I need to be busy doing something so that I don’t steal a car back to Chicago and strangle my ex.”
“Why?” Dean stopped at the red light and spared a glance at me, his brows furrowed. “What did the asswipe do now?”
“He somehow got into my secret savings account and spent every cent of it, except one. He left me with one single cent. Isn’t that generous of him?” Fury boiled under my skin, but I had nowhere to let it loose. This was not good. “I need to find a way to release this tension, and I think some hard work may just be what I need.”
“If you are sure.” Dean reached over and gripped my hand. “We can go to the warehouse and do what needs to get done. But I promise I will help you find a way to get even with that piece of scum ex of yours. Was his name on the account?”
“No. But he did have access to my laptop and was probably able to sign in that way. It looks like he sent the funds electronically into our joint account and then took them out from there. I have no clue how I will deal with this.”
“For now, trust me, and let me pay for things. Don’t worry about money for a little bit.” Dean pulled outside a large warehouse and parked the truck before turning to me. “I understand it will be hard, but just give it to me. Trust me to take care of you for now. Once we finish today, I will call my lawyers to see if anything can be done about Kenny and the missing money. Okay?”
“Okay.” I leaned over the middle console and kissed Dean. “Thank you.”
“You’re very welcome. Now, let’s work hard. I promise to let you get harder later.”
“Dirty Daddy,” I teased, and Dean groaned.
“Later.”
DEAN
“He’s pretty good.” Simon leaned back on the shipping desk and gestured toward Andrew. “He isn’t afraid to sweat and get dirty. He fits much better than the last guy you brought here.”
I rolled my eyes, thinking of the other time I had brought someone I was involved with to a warehouse. It was a disaster. Billy didn’t know how to lift properly, refused to listen when we tried to advise him how to do things per guidelines, and ended up taking a trip to the emergency room when he pulled a muscle. After that fiasco, I promised never to ask one of my boys to check out my place of work again. Yet, here I was, bringing Andrew along and allowing him to help load and unload trucks. However, Andrew knew how to handle himself in this environment, listened to advice, and learned from what was being said.
“He’s not like anyone I’ve ever met before.” I turned my head to look at Simon instead of Andrew; my boy’s ass being hugged in those jeans was starting to make my pants fit uncomfortably. “But I’m not sure how long we will be a thing. Don’t start any workplace rumors, you hear?”
“I get you.” Simon chuckled and caught Andrew’s attention, who sent us a small wave and grin before continuing his conversation with the other men unloading the truck. “But if I were you. I would hold on tight to that one. When you find a good man or woman who looks at you like that and has you looking at them the same way, well, you should hold on tight and never let go.”
“I’ll take that under consideration.” I winked as I stood straight and walked away from Simon. The sooner we unloaded the truck, the sooner I could get him back to the hotel room.
Maybe Simon is right. I really should hold on tight and never let go.
