River
River made their way through the carnival-like atmosphere of Little Hearts Club.
The kissing booth held no interest for them, neither did the games along their path.
Their eyes were focused on the dunking booth set up toward the back of the club.
They looked at the wall where the ever-changing numbers counted up the amount of money that had been raised for Cade’s medical and living expenses.
The man himself was present, wheeling around ahead of them, Luca, Damien’s brother trailing behind him.
They looked caught up in a heated argument.
They seemed to be doing that quite a bit since Cade had gotten shot in the line of duty.
River took a moment to make sure Cade wasn’t seriously distressed by the situation with the handsome Daddy chasing after him.
Seeing no signs of him needing rescue, they continued on their way to their target destination.
They reached the booth during a lull in traffic, only a few people ahead of them in line.
On the bench in the booth sat their Daddy, regal and composed as carnival goers threw ball after ball, attempting to sink them into the water below him.
River was highly anticipating their turn.
They needed some pay back for the sore bottom they were sporting today.
Not that they hadn’t earned it, but that didn’t make their need for revenge any less.
Just as the patron before them finished their turn, trying and failing to dunk River’s Daddy, Sebastian stepped forward and yelled, “Switch!”
Damnit, not again. But as they watched, Dave climbed from the booth and, in his place, Beau took his turn. River smiled. It seemed they’d get a chance to dunk one of Kenzie’s Daddies after all. It almost made up for the fact they wouldn’t get their revenge.
Revenge might be sweet, but life with their perfect Daddy? Nothing could ever be sweeter than that.
