Story: Reborn Doctor Concubine
The steward was highly efficient, arriving early with a group of servants.
Su Li assisted her mother, Su Mu, in organizing the servants.
Su Li wanted to assign two maids to stay by her mother's side.
Su Mu refused, saying, "I have enough people by my side, there's no need for more."
Su Li explained, "Mother, yesterday I had someone send word to the Wei State Duke's residence. These two maids were prepared by Grandmother. They're a pair of sisters: the elder, Miao Yan, is skilled in nutritional supplements, and the younger, Miao Yu, is proficient in medicine. Both have some martial skills, and with them by your side, yesterday's incident wouldn't have happened. Father and I can also be at ease."
After hearing this, Su Mu agreed.
"Grandmother knows about this?" Su Mu asked.
"Mother, it's such a good thing that you're pregnant! Grandmother would be so happy to know," Su Li replied.
"But it's still less than three months, it's unstable, with many variables," Su Mu frowned.
"Don't worry, Mother. Relax," Su Li reassured her.
Su Li then worked with the steward to adjust the arrangements in the mansion, turning Su Mu's main courtyard into a fortress, making it the safest place in the Su residence.
Once Su Mu was settled, Su Li returned to her own courtyard.
She spent the day reading and practicing her calligraphy, and the day passed quickly.
While the family was having dinner, a maid hurried in.
"Master, the Second Miss has had an incident!"
Although Su Yue was no match for Su Li, Su Father still doted on her.
"What happened to Yue'er?"
"Master, please hurry and take a look!" The maid didn't explain, only urging Su Father to go.
Su Li and Su Mu exchanged glances.
Su Mu said, "Go see what's going on."
Let's see what trouble this time.
When they arrived at Su Yue's courtyard, they found the servants gathered in a circle inside the room.
The room was in chaos.
Su Father asked in a deep voice, "What's going on?"
As soon as he spoke, Summer Concubine's voice could be heard from the crowd.
"Yue'er, wake up, I'm your mother!"
Su Yue's voice followed.
"Ghost! There's a ghost in this mansion, Mother, I see so many ghosts! Daughter is so scared, Father, Father! Yue'er is scared!"
The group moved further in and finally saw the situation inside.
Su Yue was acting delirious, her hair in disarray, looking out of her mind, muttering about ghosts and spirits.
Summer Concubine was crying, and when she saw Su Father, she hurriedly stood up and shouted, "Master, please look at Second Miss, save her!"
Su Father frowned, "Get a doctor!"
"It's no use, I've already called several doctors, but none of them have been able to help," Summer Concubine sobbed.
Su Li sneered inwardly and coldly said, "I think this is just hysteria, she should be sent to the countryside to recuperate."
As soon as these words were spoken, Su Li clearly saw Su Yue's movements freeze.
Su Li realized that she was pretending!
Summer Concubine cried, "Master, she's my only daughter, please save my Yue'er!"
Su Father frowned, troubled. He didn't have many children—counting the one in Su Mu's womb, there were only three.
Of course, he wanted to save her, but how could he?
He had planned to call for someone to bring his decree to the palace to summon the imperial physician, but Summer Concubine interrupted.
"Master, Second Miss keeps talking about ghosts and spirits. I think she must have offended something. I know a Taoist priest; I'd like to invite him tomorrow to take a look."
Su Father was about to speak but was interrupted by Su Yue's sudden scream.
"Female ghost! I'm not afraid of you! I'll kill you!"
With that, she charged toward Su Mu.
Everyone was shocked by this sudden turn of events.
Luckily, the maids Miao Yan and Miao Yu reacted quickly and blocked Su Yue, sending her crashing to the floor.
Summer Concubine's eyes flickered with disappointment but she quickly concealed her emotions.
"Master, Madam, please forgive me. Second Miss is out of her mind, she didn't mean it!"
Su Li's gaze grew colder. This mother and daughter were openly trying to harm her mother in both subtle and direct ways.
Su Father quickly instructed people to help the shaken Su Mu back to her room and then allowed the proposal to have the Taoist visit the mansion tomorrow.
Su Li returned to her room, thinking about what kind of plot these two women had in store.
They put on such a big act—it was clearly aimed at either herself or her mother.
She had driven away so many of Summer Concubine's supporters, and Summer Concubine had suffered such a blow. Now, it seemed she was going to retaliate.
Taoists, ghosts, and spirits...
Su Li's eyes lit up.
Could it be that her recent changes were causing suspicion?
Whether or not that was the case, she had to be prepared.
She walked to her desk and wrote a letter.
"Moyun."
Moyun appeared instantly.
"Miss, what are your orders?"
Su Li handed her the letter and said, "Deliver this to Huguo Temple tonight and give it to the abbot."
"Yes!"
After Moyun took the letter, Su Li gazed out the window.
The night was cool, and the wind had begun to rise.
