“And non-soundproof walls.”
His smile turns devious. “Even better.”
“Warner!”
Both giggling, we startle when there’s a light tap on the back window. Warner curses, struggling to yank his boxers and jeans into place so his ass isn’t hanging out. All I can really do is cross my legs.
Pressing the window control, he lowers it an inch to peer out. His shoulders visibly relax and the window drops another fewinches to reveal familiar, dirty-blonde hair, piled up in a messy bun above twinkling olive eyes.
“Could you have picked a worse spot?” Hyland greets.
“Wasn’t much thought in it,” Warner responds with a grin.
“Evidently. We’re all waiting upstairs.”
“Give us a minute?”
“I gave you thirty. Now we’re out of time.”
Peering into the backseat, Hyland lazily drags his gaze over my bare legs. I know the second he’s spotted the warm pool that’s between my thighs and slicked across the dark leather. It takes a moment for it to register, then he quirks a brow in question.
“Do I need to call the medic for the morning after pill too?”
Wonderful. Not embarrassing at all.
My head crashes against the seat as I slump. “Please.”
“I expected more responsibility from you, team leader.”
“Fuck off, Hy,” Warner threatens.
“Very reckless.” He chortles in amusement. “I’ll be upstairs.”
I groan up at the car’s fabric ceiling. “And I’ll be here pretending we weren’t just caught in the backseat like two teenagers.”
“Good luck with that, red,” Hyland calls over his shoulder. “I’d like it known now that the next parking garage hookup is all mine.”
CHAPTER 25
EMBER
SOMEDAY – NICKELBACK
Head down.
Senses alert.
Always ready for attack.
The mantra plays in my head as bustling traffic covers the sound of me trekking through the busy market. In all directions, local residents and tourists alike barter for their wares, haggling over fresh fruit, hand-carved souvenirs and all manner of intricately woven scarves.
My chin is tucked low, red hair concealed by a dark, woolly hat to protect against the chill. In Eastern Europe, the snow falls thick, and the temperature plummets when autumn surrenders to full-blown winter. I’m learning that first-hand.
“Come in, red. Any luck?”
“Affirmative,” I murmur quietly. “Electrical line secure.”
“Shit. Good work.”
