“Riggs can go worry about himself,” I growl. “Just promise me you’ll spend your nights with me.”
Her hand presses against my chest as if seeking my heart. “Promise.”
CHAPTER14
LEXI
I hold my breath as I pull up the message left by Clint, hoping for good news.
Before I’d successfully seduced the good police chief a second time, I’d told him everything. How I fell for his brother. How much I hated acting. The blowjob—because it seemed to matter with how Luke had reacted. Heck, I even told him I was falling in love with Pond Spring.
He thinks I’m going insane.
Clint:Bad news.
My heart sinks.
Lexi:Lay it on me.
Clint:I made the suggestion to Milton that your contract be severed, and he is not on board. You’re one of the main pulls to the show, and he doesn’t want to start a Hollywood rivalry between us. You could tell him it was your plan, and maybe he’d be more open to the idea of recasting your role.
Lexi:I doubt it. It’s better it came from you.
Clint:Then you’re stuck.
Lexi:There has to be a way out of my contract.
Clint:Babies? I’d love an adorable little nephew. Or a niece, but I’d have to hire armed guards to protect her once she came of age.
Lexi:I refuse to put your brother in that position.
Clint:You’re assuming that would upset him.
Lexi:Of course he’d be upset. He barely knows me.
But as soon asI hit SEND, uncertainty sets in.
He’s midway through thirty, a time when men tend to settle down and start a family if they haven’t already. Is it such a stretch that Luke might want that?
I’d have to get off birth control, and it would take a bit for my hormones to settle, but perhaps that’s a conversation worth exploring.
Clint:If he really likes you, and I’m inclined to think that he does, a baby will be much better news than you leaving him.
Thoughts of Lukerocking a newborn to sleep are just too sweet for words. He’d be a great father, an amazing protector. His family would be his everything.
Lexi:It’s not even an option at the moment, and besides, it doesn’t void my contract. They could write the pregnancy into the show or shoot around my belly.
Clint:It’s a crime drama and you’re a police officer. Better to get someone new.
Get…someone…new…backto recasting, but maybe I should look at this differently.
Oh-my—GOD!
Lexi:I have an idea.
Clint:Tell me.
Lexi:Alicia Davies.
