Hearing the sincerity in my voice, she took me in. I was fucking feral, but what surprised me was her blatant need staring back.

“You’ll get bored, like you do with everything else. I saw you talking to Annika earlier. You go to Bartholomew together, right?”

“You’ve been watching me, birthday girl?”

“Like you’ve been watching me…Go be with her, Grey.”

I released a dark chuckle. Why was she trying to deny this? Us?Ada obviously didn’t understand the severity of my obsession.

As she went to walk away, I gave her one last warning, the unwavering truth. “Run as fast as you can, Ada. Because once I catch you, you’re mine.”

Chapter 6

GREYSON

I kept her in my sights, hidden in the dark recesses of the overrun ballroom.

On the exterior, my little rabbit appeared the perfect socialite, poised and sophisticated while shmoozing with the party’s elite. But she couldn’t fully disguise her heightened state. Ada couldn’t see me, but she couldsenseme, as told by the way her gaze constantly circled back to my hidden position.

We had always gravitated towards one another, but after that life-altering kiss, we were irrevocably linked.

And that assertion only became clearer when Morgan Dane, the pompous dick, pulled her into a dance for thethirdtime,as if his classical waltz skills could wash his hands clean of the wretched actions from the night before.

We were all monsters. Some of us were just better at hiding it.

Me? I didn’t bother. I knew what I was. But apparently, Ada had forgotten, and it was about time she was reminded.

She was skirting around the edges of my sanity, letting another man guide her movements—and even worse, allowing him to roam his hands all over as if they had a right to be there.Which they fucking didn’t.

When she excused herself to step out to the bathroom, I was there, waiting. Always waiting.

As soon as she entered, I latched on to her elbow with one hand and the base of her neck with the other. I had her arm barred behind her back, her cheek planted to the bathroom counter as her ass perked high in the air.

My hard dick gravitated towards her as she wiggled to get free. If Ada continued on that route, she’d break her arm. And we couldn’t have that.

I bent forward, burying my nose in the base of her neck, whispering sweet words against her shivering skin.

“Be careful, Ada. You wouldn’t want to cause a death on your birthday, now, would you?”

“Fuck. Off. That kiss was a mistake.”

“The best mistake.” I bit into her shoulder, the indentation sinking deep, quickly followed by a lavish lick to ease the hurt.

Ada’s hiss soon transitioned into a moan that I ravenously drank down to try to satiate my never-ending thirst.

But my stepsister had other ideas. Her heeled foot kicked back against my shin, causing my grip to slip. Ada took advantage and abruptly twisted, shoving into my torso with force.

Pain shot through my nervous system as cool, hard steel pierced my abdomen. Blood saturated my front as I processedthe knife sticking out of my gut…with Ada’s hand still attached to the handle.

“Try me again and I’ll get a bigger blade, asshole.” She casually retreated, unremorseful and smug. “Forget about me, Grey. It should be easy, since you’ve done it before.”

Oh, baby wants to play. Count me in!

Staring directly into her dark, dancing eyes, I ripped out the paring knife and raised it between us, taunting. Stark red flashed beneath the harsh bathroom lights.

“I’ll give you a one-minute head start…Run.”

Her face drained of colour, and she ran.
